"deal" Reached On Immigration Reform

Recommended Posts

Sounds like it's a good deal for illegal immigrants.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Key senators and the White House reached agreement Thursday on an immigration overhaul that would grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. and fortify the border.

The plan would create a temporary worker program to bring new arrivals to the U.S. A separate program would cover agricultural workers. New high-tech enforcement measures also would be instituted to verify that workers are here legally.

The compromise came after weeks of painstaking closed-door negotiations that brought the most liberal Democrats and the most conservative Republicans together with President Bush's Cabinet officers to produce a highly complex measure that carries heavy political consequences.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., said he expects Bush to endorse the agreement.

They agreed to the deal and want to vote on it before the legislation is even written... something is rotten in Denmark!

I guess the best we can do is write our CongressCritters. Let them know We the People are still the ones who hold the power.

If you are a Dem, you have to really like your chances in the next presidential election - with Iraq, shooting through the roof gas prices, and imigration, the Republicans are doing every thing they can to make sure they don't get re-elected.

hmm seems like the party running the asylum should be held accountable (dems). With skyrocketing gas prices (in L.R. rose from $2.94 to 3.15 in under 15 hrs) I do not see any legislation by the majority party to halt the $.50 Federal Gas tax for relief, while the Dems also want to allow every illegal immigrant a home with very little paid out. To bad the feds do not follow the Six Flags rule regarding cutting in line.

Politicians make me sick.

Pelosi's Gambit [Jonah Goldberg]

Boehner's office just sent this out:

DEMOCRATS TO CHANGE 185 YEAR-OLD HOUSE RULE TO ALLOW TAX HIKES WITHOUT HAVING TO VOTE

May 16, 2007

In a stunning move, House Democrats today revealed they will attempt to rewrite House rules that have gone unchanged since 1822 in order to make it possible to increase taxes and government spending without having to vote and be held accountable. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today vowed Republicans will use every available means to fight this unprecedented change.

“This is an astonishing attempt by the majority leadership to duck accountability for tax-and-spend policies the American people do not want,” Boehner said. “The majority leadership is gutting House rules that have been in place for 185 years so they can raise taxes and increase government spending without a vote. House Republicans will use every tool available to fight this abuse of power.”

Last November, House Democratic leaders promised the most open, ethical Congress in history:

“[W]e promised the American people that we would have the most honest and most open government and we will.” (Nancy Pelosi press stakeout, December 6, 2006)

“We intend to have a Rules Committee ... that gives opposition voices and alternative proposals the ability to be heard and considered on the floor of the House.” (Steny Hoyer in CongressDaily PM, December 5, 2006)

The rules House Democrats are seeking to change have not been changed since 1822.

Republicans have already achieved significant legislative successes on the House floor with 11 consecutive “motion-to-recommit” victories that exposed flaws and substantively improved weaknesses in underlying Democrat bills. But rather than living by the same rules which have guided the House of Representatives for 185 years, Democrats are proposing to change the rules in order to game the system and raise taxes and increase spending without a House vote. What are House Democrats afraid of?

Another example of the democrats that if you dont like free speech or debate then silence the opposition.

The Democrats are also pushing through the "Fairness Doctrine," again. If you are not familiar with that then there are plenty of sites to explain it.....it ain't really fair.

Here is a good article of the fairness doctrine:

LOL! All Republicans know how to do is cave-in, bend-over, and suck up... they absolutely suck when it comes to leadership in Congress.

And I'm a Republican.

If I were a Senator, I would filibuster this bill. A real filibuster, not this fake ones they've been doing for the past 20 years.
