Scrimmage Today

BIG DAWG

Recommended Posts

QB's, QB's, QB's...what is the story?  Did Meager play?  What did Wilson do?  Did Phillips rebound from his outing last week?

HELP, I couldn't make it out this morning.

Meager did not play. Wilson and Phillips played and looked pretty equal. Evan Roberson had some outstanding plays. Zach Muzzy returned a punt for a TD and returned a KO to the 5 yd line. Zach also made some nice catches.

Scout team QB's were Tune and Zach McLaurin , first time I had seen McLaurin , he may have big upside, can really move. Both made some nice passes.

Sadly I just watched the scout team beat our main players in today's scrimmage.

Granted these were mostly scripted plays and Jmo only played a series and JQuinn was missing and most of the scout team points were on kick returns and interceptions. But the 4th and 5th string QBs directed as many scores as the first and second units.

It's going to be a long season......sad.gif

Muzzy, Special Teams Excel In Football Dress Rehearsal

Release: 08/26/2006

DENTON (8/26/06) – Special teams set the pace in North Texas football’s final dress rehearsal before taking on Texas in the season opener.

Zach Muzzy dazzled early with a pair of spectacular returns. The senior nearly ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, but was able to find the endzone on a 76-yard punt return.

Muzzy is expected to handle the bulk of the Mean Green returns, but also looked impressive on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Matt Phillips.

Denis Hopovac showed off a powerful leg on kickoffs and on a 39-yard field goal. The senior consistently sent his kickoffs inside the five-yard line, and likely gained an upper hand in battle for the starting job.

Isaac Thomas proved he was too much to handle for the Mean Green offensive line. The defensive tackle racked up two tackles for loss and a sack to go with a handful of stops.

Not to be outdone, running back Evan Robertson broke free for a couple of highlight-worthy runs. The freshman, who is expected to spell Jamario Thomas and provide a change of pace, showed his elusiveness and speed on a couple of touchdown carries.

The Mean Green kicks off the season next Saturday, September 2, against the Texas Longhorns in Austin

compared to last week we looked much better. We executed better, a lot of the sloppiness was gone...We seemed to focus on a lot of short yardage passes that worked this week when last week we could not even get the snap off without botching it. Not to say that it was perfect, but we looked like a football team...

We have quite a bit of injuries still, let's hope for more healthy players soon! Ike Thomas was playing and looked dominate at times, we need him on the field as much as possible. Phillips looked much better. Wilson was fine...Tune could be a star in the future. The new QB #14 has some talent, anyone know about him? Our O-line has some beef to it's depth and looks built for downhill running blowing people off the line. It seemed when we pulled the o-line the d-line with their speed was able to get the backfield. Evan Robertson is out for Jamario's job, with Jamario not 100% Evan is ready to step in and I personally feel better about the drop off between a healthy Jamario and Robertson than a healthy Jamario and Kevin Moore. Still did not see Cox? FG kickers looked better...

Meager has missed the spring. The two scrimmages and hasn't dazzled anyone when he has played ... I can't even imagine just outright saying he is the starter (IF HEALTHY).
