Women Alone In First Place, Men Climb To Fourth After The Second Round Of The SBC Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (4/18/06) – Senior Andra Lancaster surged into a tie for the lead while the North Texas women’s golf team moved in front of the pack at the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Championship from the PGA Village.

Lancaster fired a second round of 2-over par 74 and is tied with two other golfers at 148 for the tournament heading into the final round. The Mean Green are in position to win the school’s first ever women’s golf conference championship following a second round of 307.

“I’m really excited about our position heading into the final round,” said North Texas women’s head coach Amber Chevrie. “It was a little more difficult out there, but Andra was steady and kept making shots and she’s in a great position”.

North Texas is three shots ahead of Florida International and Arkansas-Little Rock with a 610 going into the final round.

On the men’s side North Texas moved up a spot to fourth place with a second round of 291 and 12 shots behind Western Kentucky heading into the final round.

Individually for the women Jaclyn Golden shot a 77 and is tied for fifth place with a 151, three shots off the lead. Junior Tara Lambright rebounded from a difficult opening round and posted a second round of 75 and moved into 20th place.

Halli Richards shot a second round of 86 and has a 160 after two rounds while Brooke Tanner shot an 81 and has a 162.

For the men senior Andreas Kali had a team best round of 2-under par 70 and is tied for seventh place with a 143. Austin Welch shot a 1-over par 73 and is also tied for seventh place. Sophomore Anthony Broussard posted an under-round score with a 1-under par 71 and is tied for 11th place with a 145. Raul Lemus and Ben Smock are tied after two rounds with a score of 156.

“We played good and we are still in the hunt heading into the final round,” said North Texas men’s head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “We have a chance if we can make some shots early and put some pressure on the teams in front of us”.

North Texas remains in good position heading into the final round, two shots behind Troy, seven behind South Alabama, and 12 off the leader Western Kentucky.

The final round of the 2006 SBC Championship begins tomorrow at 8 a.m.
