SB vs. Texas A&M (4/17/24)

Recommended Posts

Just watched the replay and the score is pretty deceiving to me.

1.  Childers has got to get straightened out for us to have a shot the rest of the way.  It looks like she is trying to overthrow and has lost her control.

2.  This change in the rule for obstruction is complete bullshit.  Christensen hosed a girl trying to steal second by three feet and the umpire, after adjusting his Aggie ring, called obstruction.  It is ridiculous.  There was no other way for Medford to field the throw.  It is almost as if they are supposed to just let them have access to the base.  I would love to hear the umpire's explanation, after he adjusts his Aggie ring, on how he expects us to defend that steal attempt.

3.  That reversal led to their big inning and took a lot out of us.

4.  Their homerun was basically a popup that the wind carried out.  On the flip side, Gamble hit on off the wall, that if she elevated another ten feet, would have landed in Sanger.

5.  We still seem to be a little passive at the plate.

6.  We turned a beautiful 5-4-3 double play that they never showed a replay of.

In the end, this game means nothing.  Let's go sweep Memphis and finish out this season on a winning streak.  Love watching these girls.

Not the game I expected to see.

Team seemed in awe of the mighty aggies.

Childers, I thought was NT's best pitcher early; now she looks like she has lost her confidence.

The game was far from meaningless, it was a chance to demonstrate that NT is a quality team.  It did just the opposite.

I didn't think she could get off to a worse start than last Friday when she walked four batters in 1+ innings of work, but alas, four walks without recording an out last night. She's been going crazy with those pitches sailing over batters' heads.

I've been thinking about this comment as well. This seems to be our biggest fault of our women's programs, who overall are usually pretty solid. Soccer vs. TTU, SMU, women's basketball vs. TAMU, TCU, and our softball team against most power conference teams the last few years. I remember in the recent past our softball ladies used to be good for at least one win over Baylor in their own tournament every year for a few seasons in a row. Now on nights like Wednesday, we play like we're not both competing for the same championship.

I didn't get this feeling from watching on ESPN+.  Did it feel that way for you all that were there in person?  Are we in awe, or are we just trying too hard and get off our game?

To me it didn't look like our batters were intimidated. We finished with like 4 or 5 hits in 5 innings, better than getting no-hit like we did to Kentucky and Mizzou last season. But we let a bad call at second that would have been the third out snowball into six more runs to put the game out of reach early. A&M misplayed a couple of grounders that allowed more of our runners to get on but obviously kept us from scoring until the last inning.

That call/rule is ridiculous. I would love to hear an explanation as to how they expect the fielder to make that play that would not result in that call. That, to me, was the turning point in the game.
