We are in the AAC at this particular time but  it is somewhat temporary.   Most of the SMU people I know seem to think we won't be for long and they expect we will be invited to the PAC 10 or Big 12 in fairly short order.  Not anything against the AAC, as it is a good conference for programs like North Texas who are trying to build up their programs and fan support.

Fan support?

And if smut was going to the big12 they'd be going, chief. Got left in the wind for directional Florida, Southern Ohio, uh, and the mormons. And if Oregon and Wash don't move, yall aren't moving. And no guarantee smut is next in line anyway. Boise is a better geo fit, as is SDSU and Fresno and a handful of others. all have way, way, way bigger fan bases and better programs. Get comfy. 😉

Video leak of "SMU people" thinking they're next in line for P10 or B12 "in fairly short order"

Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor, will continue to blackball SMU from getting into the Big12. If you keep up with recruiting, SMU competes with those teams quite often for players, no way...will those schools allow SMU to be on a level playing field with them.

That's why NIL is so important.  We have a top five transfer class right now in large part due to the two separate NIL groups working in tandem.  We can absolutely go head to head with just about anyone in the country in the portal thanks to NIL.

SMU is exponentially more valuable than Boise, Fresno, et al in the MWC.  $2b endowment, UNSWR rankings, and financial commitment to athletics is what will matter most to the PAC presidents.  Not to mention access to Texas recruiting which the PAC desperately needs.

Same thing could have been said in 2011, when they opted for Colorado and Utah.  Maybe your NIL money will make the difference this time.

Or maybe you really did, in fact, mean the PAC.

SMU is in a much better position today than 2011, especially with the current landscape of viable expansion candidates.

Credit for your NIL, but will that sell you to the PAC-12? Your sales pitch is we not able to draw a crowd or bring a TV audience, but we can probably pay more than you for players?

There's a lot more to expansion that attendance.  You could also make the argument that playing teams that the average fan knows and associates with P5 would be a nice boost (in addition to the $200m stadium expansion/renovation).

I think the pitch to the PAC is a) strong academics with a multi-billion endowment b) exposure in Texas where a ton of West Coasters relocate and c) financial commitment to athletics unrivaled in the current G5 and lower tier P5.

Baylor has quickly got into gear with their NIL program, they secured UNT transfer Jake Roberts yesterday. Word from the Baylor insiders, Jake was about to commit to SMU, until they put a bigger offer in front of him.
