It's honestly an amazing conundrum we are in. Stuck with a below .500 coach that can't win a bowl game, or hardly any game of importance, with an opportunity for him to coach for and get an extension, further dividing our fan base. Our rivals are laughing at us. It is a truly embarrassing situation.

If you think they are laughing at us now, just wait until UTSA realizes how bad they are f’d with their 10 year contract next season with a huge chunk of their playmakers missing.

UTSA has a conference championship to show for their extension. What do we have for ours? I agree with you that they will be screwed handing out such a big extension when everything is said and done but for right now, they've had the last laugh.

We won the west in year 2 under Littrell, if he and his sophomore quarterback had found a way to beat Kiffin in 2017 in the conference title game and we pulled a UTSA, we would only be in the beginning of year 5 of that contract. Can you imagine being forced to keep Littrell for 6 more seasons (maybe minimum 3 more) regardless of outcome because the buyout was too steep? What a disaster that would be? We are freaking out about one more year, UTSA has a minimum 8 left no matter how bad Gilmer’s finest gets.

What we don't know about UTSA and Traylor, though, is if he can't reload and get the correct mix of players and coaches. He might be an SL clone, but he also might just be a great head coach. And the bigger question is whether UTSA would buyout that contract in your hypothetical--we know we wouldn't, but what if their donors in SA that are a lot more corporate than ours decide to step up if losing kicked in during Traylor's 3rd or 4th year on that deal? Again, probably not, but we don't know that. We do know that we wouldn't do that, though, as that has been proven with Benford and now SL.

I understand where you are coming from, and hope and agree that this will hurt UTSA in the long term.  Just saying that the path is shaping up for more than just 1 more year of Littrell given the cupcake schedule he has to work with next year, and at this moment, I doubt UTSA fans are freaking out an iota of more Traylor given what he just won for them this year.  The differences are that Traylor is a proven winner at UTSA, sure Littrell won the west one year, but has yet to win a trophy that you can actually put in a trophy case.
