  1. Thanks for proving it by calling those with which you disagree "dorks". The Israeli's wouldn't be conducting their military operations if the Hamas led Palestinians hadn't taken action on October 7th. So, in the effort to engage in honest discussion, address the following: 1. Where were the protests when the actions of October 7th occurred? 2. Who is stating there shouldn't be peaceful protests? 3. Why don't the neighbors of Gaza, such as Egypt, accept Palestinian refugees? 4. I would challenge the claim that genocide against the Palestinians is taking place. I would argue that Israel's intent is to eradicate Hamas.

  2. DENTON, Texas – The UNT women’s basketball program received signatures from four established players who will join the Mean Green in the 2024-25 season. Guards Kyla Deck from Stephen F. Austin and Gia Adams from UTA will bolster the UNT backcourt, while the Mean Green will also welcome forwards Jaelyn Talley, who played two seasons at Stetson, and UTEP’s Adhel Tac. They will join Louisiana Tech transfer Amaya Brannon and high school signees Chania Price and Gwendlyn McGrew in UNT’s 2024 signing class. Jaelyn Talley I 6-0 I Forward I Fairfax, Va./Stetson Talley was the first of the four to commit and sign to Burton and the staff. The forward started 48 games and appeared in 54 over her freshman and sophomore seasons at Stetson. A ferocious offensive rebounder, Talley led the Atlantic Sun Conference with 111 offensive boards and ranked in the 98th percentile among Division I players in offensive rebounds per game as a sophomore. She averaged 8.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 47% from the field. During the 2022-23 season, she notched 10.2 points per game and grabbed 124 total rebounds. She scored in double figures 21 times as a true freshman, including a career-high 20 points against Queens (NC). Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Jaelyn is an important piece to this class. She brings a toughness that we need in a league as competitive as the American Athletic Conference. Her talent aligns with our vision of success for how we want to play, and I’m excited for her growth in our program.” Gia Adams I 5-7 I Guard I Cypress, Texas/UTA Adams will play her final season in Denton after spending two years at Tennessee State University and the 2023-24 campaign at UT Arlington where she was an All-WAC First Team honoree. A proven scorer who has averaged over 12 points per game in each of her three seasons will provide an instant scoring option in the backcourt for North Texas. During her lone season with the Lady Mavericks, Adams started all 33 games and averaged 14.5 points, 3.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Her 45.0 field goal percentage was the fourth best mark in the conference, while also shooting 37% on 3-point attempts and 82% at the free throw line. She dropped a season-high 30 points against California Baptist and also performed at a high level against Power Five opponents, scoring 20 points against Texas and 15 points at Colorado. Originally from Cypress, Texas, Adams ended up at Tennessee State for her first two collegiate seasons. She was named the 2021-22 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 12.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals over 31 games. She became just the third TSU freshman to score at least 30 points in a 33-point outing against SIUE and the first player of any year in the program to do it since 2012. Her sophomore season saw her scoring increase to 14.1 points per game resulting in a Second Team All-OVC selection. Adams scored in double figures 20 times on the year, including five games where she produced at least 20 points. Adams will bring a load of experience to the UNT backcourt having played in 90 games and started 89 of them. She has scored over 1,200 points in her career, has 256 assists, 223 rebounds and 137 steals. Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Gia is a special player that will bring speed, competitiveness, and a high level of work to our team. She is an electric player and person who values winning and relationships with her teammates and family. As a first-team all-conference player she will add great skill and experience to our team and back court.” Kyla Deck I 5-9 I Guard I Frisco, Texas/SFA Also joining the UNT backcourt will be metroplex native Kyla Deck. Out of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Deck played two seasons at SFA where she appeared in 64 games. After a solid freshman season that saw her average 6.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, Deck took a huge jump in the 2023-24 season. On top of the 12.2 points per game and 3.1 assists she averaged, Deck became a lockdown defender on the perimeter for the Ladyjacks. She finished the season in the 99th percentile and just outside the top-25 among all DI players with 2.6 steals per game. Deck dished out a career-high seven assists at UT Arlington and notched seven steals in the season opener against Oklahoma Panhandle State. She also flashed her offensive ability against Abilene Christian when she poured in 34 points on 70% shooting. Deck joins the North Texas program with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Kyla is a dynamic guard who is ready to hit the ground running. She is an elite defender, has a high basketball IQ, and can score at every level. Equally, she is a valuable addition to our program’s culture, and I know Mean Green nation will love the leadership she brings on and off the court.” Adhel Tac I 6-0 I Forward I Garland, Texas/UTEP Hailing from Sachse High School in Garland, Tac was tabbed a three-star prospect by ESPN and Prospects Nation. After a year at TCU that saw her log 55 minutes of action in 14 appearances, she transferred to UTEP where she has spent the last three seasons. Tac recorded her best season as a Miner in the 2022-23 campaign where she made 31 starts and averaged 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. She led the team grabbing 194 rebounds and finished seventh in Conference USA in rebounds per game. Her 2023-24 season got cut short after suffering a season-ending injury in January. Prior to that, Tac was averaging 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. She had converted 51% of her shots and was 7-of-13 from behind-the-arc on the year. Her sister, Acheil, played at UNT from 2012-16 and totaled 653 points and 554 rebounds in her career. Quoting UNT head coach Jason Burton: “Adhel is excited to be back home, and it is always special to see players experience success on and off the floor in front of friends and family. Adhel is going to be a special part of our culture and she knows what it takes to win at this level. Her ability to play multiple positions is something our staff is looking forward to and we can’t wait for her to get on campus.”

  3. The next option is not what you want…to continue as a nomad that gets paid for OOC body bag games or play in a conference that gets no chance to ever win a title. Playing teams like the Power Teams in the B1G, SEC, most of the Big 12 and some of the ACC is not in the best interests of any G5 school anymore. The money is too much for them to ever let us fight fair.

  5. NCAA Finances: Revenue & Expenses by School - USA TODAY The reshaping of the entire system needs to be done ASAP. Let the NFL-lite and NBA-lite programs run their own teams. Hell, own them if they want. Pay players, trade them, sign them to long-term deals, etc. Let them be pros. The rest of us need to play traditional college sports. Scholarships + stipends. Let them be college kids. Give G5 schools a chance to be a national champion. You'll get a lot of us olds back with this plan. And olds have time and money.

  9. Guess we will see if it is treated in the same manner as the thread I started. I have no problem with their choice to demonstrate, but don't set up shanty town on campus, no violence, no vandalism, no removal of the American flag and replaced with the Palestinian flag, no breaking into campus buildings and UNT telling them what they can do with their "demands". Also, I would like these demonstrators to explain their support of a terrorist led group that raped women, beheaded innocent people, placed babies in ovens and buried them alive and uses women, children and hospitals as shields against attacks. Last, any protestors that prove to be agitators or commit any of the acts above, and are students, to be expelled from UNT. Those that are not students and commit any of these acts should be arrested for trespassing.

  11. Scrap'em is (or was) a thing. I remember in the late 90s there was some sort of Administration decision that "Scrap'em Eagles" would be our official battle cry. Probably only a few people were ever aware of it, but Talons got the memo.

  12. We are in the best conference now that we have ever been in since the old MVC days. We host conference games this season with Tulane, Tulsa, Army, etc and those are great. Right where we need to be. Much better than the old SLC or even SunBelt. Playing some Power Teams are fun in both football and basketball, actually the highlight of the schedules! I look more forward to our away game with Texas Tech than a home game with SFA, and I think most fans do too.

  16. Generally, I would agree with you, but we would need to commit a lot more resources to marketing and promoting those areas before I’d take our head coaches there. Just a few short years ago, I went to the one in Fort Worth and there were maybe 20 people there outside of athletic, university, and alumni association staff members, and of those 20 probably 10 were people who came down from Denton. I can’t imagine how disappointing it is as a head coach to show up to those kind of events with the lack of support. I kind of wish they’d find a way to incorporate some musical group like the Eli Young Band to help drum up interest in these. We need to find some kind of “hook” for these events to build these up.

  19. Four signed today, looks like an excellent group. I wish the men side could do something close in recruiting. I like what Hodge has done, but nothing close to Burton. He has thus far kept his players and added this group to them. As I posted before, kepting Lambert was the best news on the NT basketball front.

  20. I agree the entire NCAA needs revised or taken over by another entity (not named SEC or Big10). But to drop us down to G5 National Champion status is no different then 1-AA or FCS National Champ. No Thanks. Next option?

  28. Gamble would have been a hot commodity on the transfer market throughout her time at UNT but was never tempted to leave. “Coach DeLong and my teammates are what kept me here,” Gamble said. “He had faith in me for a long time. I can do just as much here as I could at a Power Five.” She’s done plenty already. https://dentonrc.com/unt-coach-rodney-delong-believed-in-kailey-gamble-setting-her-on-course-for-legendary-career/article_2f56bfad-0fcb-5174-ae8e-36837f70ea06.html (This is the newsletter from the DRC. It is free for those that sign up.) The quote above is why I love this team. She isn't the only one that could have left. These young ladies have represented our university so well, have fun playing the game and are a joy to watch. Hope they sweep Charlotte and make a run through the AAC Tournament.

  29. We have to stop reacting defensively, and tearing down these guys that are taking advantage of the system afforded them. It's not their fault. These dudes aren't like Giovanni Vizza, and bailing/"transferering" when they are somewhat challenged by a teammate. Want to call someone names, or wish them ill? Look that way... to the guys quitting/walking away when the going gets tough.

  30. I hate to see him leave, but, I want him to be able to do whatever he believes is best for him and his family. He has contributed immensely to our program for several seasons, accomplished so much, and I am extremely grateful for his endeavors. I hope Michigan is opening the bank vault for him. And, like others before him, he graduated prior to transferring. He stayed here for the duration of his undergraduate career and I believe should be eligible for HOF consideration.

  31. I think the “school” part of this isn’t terribly important to him and he will regret it in the long run. Edit: Here's the other issue with Buggs. He's a one trick pony. He doesn't have the handle to bring he ball up, he doesn't have the quickness to drive by someone or the ups to attack the rim. He's a three point shooter, period. Don't get me wrong, I liked Buggs, but he was feast or famine on offense, and although he hustled, he was a liability on defense.

  32. In mid-April, New Mexico coach Richard Pitino joked on Twitter (or X, whatever) that he only had to wait 15 more days until he could be mean to his players again. Two young studs, JT Toppin and Donovan Dent, were the top pieces New Mexico was trying to keep out of the transfer portal. The Lobos went 1-for-2. Pitino getting Dent back for Year 3 is tremendous. The dazzling point guard was one of the top pick-and-roll maestros in the sport last year. With Jamal Mashburn Jr. charting off to Temple and Jaelen House exhausting his eligibility, the table is set for Dent to have a monster year. His frontcourt running mate will not be joining him. Dent was an elite play-creator, and Toppin became one of his favorite play-finishers. The Mountain West Freshman of the Year averaged 12.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He was fabulous. But Toppin entered the transfer portal in the final hour, and he's quickly become one of the top small-ball big men in the transfer portal. Toppin has boatloads of Big 12 interest. Getting a potential Mountain West Player of the Year candidate back will keep New Mexico's floor high, but the ceiling changes without Toppin. 34. A coaching change always kickstarts tons of roster movement, but new Vanderbilt coach Mark Byington was less than 24 hours away from emerging from the transfer portal fracas with Ven-Allen Lubin still in the fold. It was not meant to be. The emerging, 6-foot-8 forward entered the portal on Wednesday, just hours before the deadline. Vanderbilt hoops had a frustrating season, but Lubin was the major bright spot. He elevated his game to new heights after transferring to Vanderbilt from Notre Dame. Lubin went toe-to-toe with some elite frontcourts and dominated. He had 17 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks against Auburn. He ripped Florida's intimidating frontline for 25 points and 11 rebounds. Lubin shot over 66% at the rim as an undersized center in the uber-athletic SEC. He's a beast. Lubin joins Great Osobor, Norchad Omier and Toppin as one of the premier small-ball centers on the market. He had to play the 5 at Vanderbilt, but Lubin could easily downshift to a matchup-hunting 4 at his next spot. Byington has built up depth in Vanderbilt's frontcourt with transfer additions like Jaylen Carey, Tyler Nickel and Devin McGlockton, but Lubin was primed to be near the top of the scouting report for the 'Dores in 2024-25, and now he's gone at the very last second. 35. Seems to me the asks are coming from a million different directions at UNT these days. Economy sucks and people getting laid off left and right. Meanwhile, our players are bailing to portal and students protesting on campus. Football team was 8th in the conference so in my estimation they are asking for support with zero results.

  36. The silence out of the football program is ridiculous. Nothing from Morris, nothing from anyone, just silence. Meanwhile, other universities have their coaches reaching out to the fans, alumni and boosters. I even looked up the Light the Tower initiative website. Poorly designed, links don’t work, etc. Same old crap every year. They are pushing me away from coming for any football games. I may just switch over to basketball tickets.

  38. In theory, you are probably right. However, the mass email/twitter communication is not going to get it done. If they wanted to do this, they need to spend some money and create a UNT Teacher Day of Giving - Annual Reunion. Bring every single possible teacher that can make it to DATCU, cater to them with food and guests, and convince them that giving back is the only way to propel our university forward and see how many wallets they can open up. Market the event appropriately with a runway of at least 2 or 3 months. But this just arbitrary giving day with lazy and cheap marketing will most often times fall on deaf ears. But, hey, it's the UNT way.
