  1. Your assumption is wrong. It came out last week....that all 8 of our seniors.....decided not to return. They want to go on to their careers. Our school was willing to pay for their extra year. (Must be noted that softball players don't all get full scholarships.....not sure if any do. So if the gals had come back....they would have had to pay some of their own way. But our school was willing to pay what they had been paying.) https://dentonrc.com/rsssports/unt-softball-seniors-walking-away-with-fond-memories-after-deciding-to-not-take-advantage-of/article_78a7309b-b4b7-585e-8b32-1e65e7b061a3.html

  2. I fish down in corpus with a group that all has little flats boats named for the college they went to or root for. I just got new decals for mine to rep UNT.

  3. Well, what's your reasoning behind the thousands of unaccounted for deaths then Rick? You just don't wanna admit you're wrong. Your predictions for this haven't exactly been the best. Over a month ago you didn't think deaths would get anywhere near 100K when I said they would. Guess what - they are. Now you claim the deaths are all made up because you can't say you're wrong.

  5. Yes - coaches have a lot more say in basketball and the lead time is usually under 2 years. That's why we pivoted so quickly with Grant to a tougher OOC. Sometimes an assistant will have the scheduling duty. Here's some recent links with references: https://www.sltrib.com/sports/byu-cougars/2019/05/20/byus-new-basketball-coach/ https://www.theadvertiser.com/story/sports/college/ul/2020/04/29/ul-basketball-coronavirus-impacts-cajuns-basketball-scheduling-plans/3047701001/

  6. I would say his parents taught him well. We really didn't have anything to do with that. If you get a kid who has spent 18 years of his life not saying yes sir or no sir, four years of playing football at a university is not going to make him start. That is home training.

  7. I don't believe anyone can completely peg McCasland's style. I think he is a coach that will use his players to his best advantage, not just stick with what he did last year or the year before. The three has definitely changed basketball. However, there are a lot of teams that play successfully with two bigs that don't shoot threes. My predicted lineup next year is Hamlin at pg, Simmons at the 5 and Lewis at the 4. I think the other two spots are up for grabs; Bell in the game should make NT a top rebounding team. He has an advantage as he can shoot the three. However, Reese and McBride are likely to start with Bell still getting big minutes off the bench. Scary, Jones looks like a better athlete than any of them. Robinson as a freshman might also surprise. Jackson will continue primarily as a defensive specialist. Ousmanes will get about 10 minutes a game. Wise is a mystery.

  9. Other, none of these options are likely to happen. Neither will the top p5's form a new association and bolt the NCAA. There is just no reason for them to do so, they wouldn't make significantly any more money, they already get most of that. They are also smart enough to know, the smaller the association gets; the harder it will be to win.

  10. I'm not really that young, but I am under 50, which seems to be the cutoff line. And, this is actually pretty easy. The generation above you fought in WW2 and is typically known as the greatest generation. Before them, came a Great Depression, a first world war, and the industrial revolution (going to make an assumption and assume we can cut off some things at the existence of electricity, cars, refrigeration, etc.) Post WW2 to the 1970s was a pretty non-disputed economic boom and then the 70s saw some reckoning and a downturn, and the response was deregulation and the failed ideas of trickle down. Basically, pull up the ladder behind you and kick the can. Someone born in the early 80s has spent their lives feeling the aftershocks of those decisions and we have seen wage levels stagnate for 30 years now. The idea of kicking the can, making sure you keep yours and pretending that the rich give a shit about a shrinking middle class has somehow become a core value for people who will never make more than a quarter of a million dollars annually in their household. For some reason, you all really, really want to crap on Millennials to feel better about other problems and it is baffling when you raised them. It's like screaming at a mirror of your worst collective habits. That said, care to answer why Biden and Trump can't have fully transparent accountability for their accusations or are we gonna pivot to economic theory next to avoid a simple question?

  12. I didn't say Biden gets a pass. I have never professed support for Biden anywhere. I'm just curious that if this is an absolute for someone, why it is only applied in one direction? I'd be happy to see everyone accused fairly investigated, prohibit them from using legal machinations to suppress the full disclosure of information and hold anyone that is proven to have done something completely accountable even if they are nice or a good kid / nice guy. Doesn't seem like a controversial stance, but here we are.

  14. Can you imagine some unknown guy parading around the NFL, trying to smooch it up with their talent evaluators and telling them how awesome those Mean Green players are? lol Do other NCAA teams have this kind position on their payroll? Because, I'm kinda with Salsa on this: seems like we'd be begging. IMO, only one person right now could do it and we'd keep our integrity. Mean Jo Greene. He has the respect of the league. Anyone else, and I think we come across as a salesman that won't go away, trying to sell you his vacuum cleaner when you work in an office with stained concrete.

  15. Brandon Kennedy was one of the best college players to ever play and he was not drafted. Olawale was not drafted, but has a nice NFL career and barely played in college. It probably would help in recruiting if NT sent more players to the pros, but on a personal level; I don't care much about anything in the pros.

  17. I don't understand why there isn't a stronger public outcry for testing. Everyone seems content to pick on Trump for his speeches or get into pissing matches about who has better stats and information. I know the CDC screwed up an initial wave of testing supplies but, come on!, wasn't that nearly 2 months ago?

  21. Agree it should be openly looked at and if he did something illegal then he should be held accountable. Too many politicians get away with way to much. Trump with some of his stupid comments and people like Biden who brags about holding aid and getting the prosecutor fired who was going to investigate his son. I think we can all agree, regardless of side, way too many politicians and famous people get away with a lot of crap that would put most of us in jail

  25. Are you so binary that the idea of someone saying both sets of claims against both men (Trump has many more on the record with more evidence than Biden) deserve to be fairly vetted and all legal maneuvering of non-disclosures , countersuits, intimidation, etc. somehow means the libs have personally victimized you again? Why are you olds so frail and inflexible when you had possibly the easiest lives in the history of humanity?

  27. How many? All those and more. I guess the real death toll from the disease is at least 75K in the States. Probably higher. I mean my grandparents are in great shape even though they're in their mid 80's. If they caught this tomorrow and died in a few weeks, sure some could belittle their deaths and say they had a foot in the grave anyway, but I bet my grandfather lives at least another ten years all things being equal. My mother is a breast cancer survivor, but still in excellent condition. She still dances several days a week, but if the suggestion is that if she dies, her death wasn't from this disease but because she had a shattered immune system from cancer - I'd take issue with that. She has better overall health than many people MY age. As far as never making that claim...maybe not in exact quotes, but at the very least you've implied as much. Practically everything since when I suggested the death toll would be much higher than we're gonna be prepared to handle and you chose the 12K-75K range (12K being the generally assumed H1N1 death figure to 75K - which was a number I saw for the 2017-2018 flu season). That was over a month ago if I recall.

  34. dude, i was just replying to him. the odds are in our favor, that doesn't mean people won't die...common sense....so .675% of the population died...not a great argument for shutting everything down, especially when you see that the huge majority that are dying are above 70 and have underlying condition. young folks need to get out and work and open things up

  36. Connecticut is still pretty much closed up, but you wouldn’t know it except for the unfortunate small businesses that weren’t “essential” or could not quickly adapt to the take out/delivery model. I was at Home Depot yesterday and the parking lot was full and everyone and their mother was shopping in the store. Everyone was required to wear a facial covering (mask, bandana, whatever). If it turns out all we needed to do was protect the known vulnerable groups and wear masks in public then some people have a lot of explaining to do, because I’m pretty sure the virus is just as infectious now as it was six weeks ago. Here’s the weird observation about masks. First we were told that masks were not necessary and that they were not a defense against contracting the disease or that they would give us a false sense of security. We absolutely shouldn’t go out and buy masks because they were needed by the medical community (I didn’t know hospitals bought their supplies at Home Depot too). Anyway, now we are told that if we go out in public, we *must* wear a mask to prevent spreading the disease (i.e. to strangers who we must stay a minimum of 6 feet away from and pass by in a second or two), but we *don’t* have to wear masks at home where we are in close contact with our loved ones who we would most likely infect because of our prolonged close interaction with in a relatively confined space.

  37. For the record, I wouldn't mind seeing this but I do worry about how the division members will be chosen. I'd prefer that after selection of the highest group that they be put together geographically. Ditto for the middle group. Under the present setup I'd prefer to be in the AAC but in revision I'd rather not be in a conference that includes Temple, Navy, East Carolina and Cincinnati. Even the two Florida universities are too distant. I'd much rather see all conference opponents within a day's drive, if possible. I realize that there are some areas where that is not possible but let's try to cut as many expenses as we can. I believe that it's time for a major do-over, at least in the major conferences.

  40. I would like to know that too. From what I’ve seen in the past, it’s more of a fill in schedule with some home and home or 2-1 like OU
    1 point
  41. Someone with the knowledge on this subject please educate me. Does basketball scheduling typically happen like football with the signing of a series or is it more of a "fill in your schedule as needed" arrangement? I know that the AD is pretty much responsible for the football schedule, I would assume with a lot of insight from the head coach, but don't the basketball head coaches handle their own scheduling to some degree?

  44. Well, the double standard is kind of evident in your own post. I'm open to understanding more about the case, although early on the whole coaching from a Current Affairs journalist doesn't really help her credibility. We'll see where it goes. I also think trying to take the high ground when the most recent Supreme Court justice had multiple allegations against him, and same for the current President, is a bit laughable. As soon as the allegations became severe enough, Al Franken resigned, for example. So no, I wouldn't say this is a double standard. Serious claims are taken seriously, and we're not to the point with Biden where Franken found himself.

  45. I think you will see several of this year's class be major contributors. Time will tell about Jackson and I am not sure if Gibson was a Mac recruit, but he was definitely a contributor. This is the first year that Mac has gone in a big way for HS players. Overall though MaCasland has been a great recruiter. Blakeley's success was primarily based on Robbins' recruits and Jones' recruiting really did not take off till much later in his NT career.

  46. I was going to ask the same question. Side Show Joe, can you give us an estimate on the finished product? And where would the AD place this bronze bust of Abner? Athletic Center? Regardless, Abner should be honored for what he did in the advancement of black athletics at UNT. And set the record straight once and for all. It was not the black player from smu that was the first in Texas. I had an email argument with Bob West of the Port Arthur news. His reasoning was that smu was "major college football" at the time. And I called bullshit on that remark!!!!

  47. Last year as we got into our set rotation in conference play, Jahmiah only saw minutes due to foul trouble. I think that’s where he is at best next season. Especially once Robinson and Ousmane get some experience. I think we our starting lineup is Hamlet, McBride, Reese, Bell, and Zach Simmons with Rubin Jones being our first guard off the bench and Lewis being our first big off the bench. Jones can come in for any of our three guards because he is one of our best three-point shooters and one of our best offensive creators, plus he’s 6’3”/6’4”. Lewis, similar to Deng Geu, will probably play the 4 and the 5, although Ousmane could eat some of those minutes at the 5. I think Zach, Bell, and Lewis will probably play about 70 minutes combined at the 4/5 each game, leaving about 10 minutes for Ousmane and Robinson there. I think Robinson is our 8th guy. He will probably play a lot of 4 in his career here but this season I think he’ll play a lot at the 3. I think Robinson will see a lot of his playing time coming when Reese or Bell is off the court. I don’t think Mccasland wants Reese at the 2 and Robinson at the 3 together because that gives you just one offensive creator/ballhandler and Mccasland likes to have 2 on the court at any given time, and if Bell is out Robinson is your only other option for a shooting 4 to help spread out the spacing. Then after those 9 I mentioned I think Jackson and Wise compete for any remaining guard minutes, and Jahmiah and Alcindor probably only play in blowouts. That’s the way I would expect it to play out at this moment but there’s so much time for change and hopefully the last 4 guys I mentioned come back much improved this season.

  48. This team looks too deep, need another ball in the game. I am surprised that McCasland signed a juco with his last ship. That tells me that he believes Lewis is real good. There is also a strong possibility that one of the freshman maybe good enough to force themselves into the starting lineup. As an aside, it kind of strange; nothing has been reported about the woman's team. They only had two places and those were committed long ago, but that doesn't mean they should not get a little notice.
