VCU's coach has been one of the hottest commodities in college hoops for the past few years or so. If he leaves VCU, it would be for a marquee program. Which he already has done, turning down both Illinois and UCLA.

But SFA. Really fun to watch, all year. Except when they played us. They should give UCLA a good game as well.

We can't afford what Shaka Smart makes at VCU. He makes 1.5 million dollars a season there. UCLA offered him more than that (not to mention the chance to coach one of the, if not the, blue blood programs) and he didn't budge.

Haha, Shaka Smart to North Texas. We would have to fold shop in about 4 or 5 minor sports to think about being able to afford him. He would go to a major P5 team before any of that took place. He built VCU so that's why he is happy at VCU.

We had the chance to get the SFA coach that put all that talent in place and passed. His name is Danny Kaspar.

Actually, Anthony Grant is the one who built them up. Shaka has taken them to the next level and made them more of a perennial mid-major power, but he took over a good situation when Grant left for Alabama.

True. I just always think of Grant and Eric Maynor and that win over Duke in 07. But that was really more of Capel's team.

I give Grant for capitalizing on the momentum Capel started. Capel started the process, which is why he was hired away. Then Grant kept it growing, left, giving it to Shaka. Smart really is where VCU became VCU, but it was a great build up for years before him.

Lets not forget VCU decided that they wanted to be somebody. The fact that Shaka Smart makes twice as much as our bowl winning football coach who just got a raise shows you their commitment to be good at something.

Maybe that will happen someday at UNT.
