In the first game of the season against Idaho, the North Texas wide receiver unit set a new school record with 12 different receivers making at least one catch in a game. Mike Grant, who coached running backs his first two years with the Mean Green, made the switch over to wide receivers early in 2013 and has made an instant impact.

Senior Darnell Smith is 23rd in the nation in receptions per game with 22 and the Mean Green is on track to have its first 1,000 yard receiver since 2008. Brelan Chancellor has set new career marks in receptions and yards.

Grant has been a big part of the improved play at the position. This summer Grant spent a significant amount of time with the Buffalo Bills as an intern. Grant’s internship was part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship, which is an annual program administered by the NFL Management Council and NFL Player Engagement
