New UTA AD Jim Baker

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of our next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for UT Arlington.

We are fortunate that our new director, P. James Baker, comes to us from the most successful and respected brand in college sports — the Texas Longhorns.

Jim Baker’s career spans more than 30 years in intercollegiate athletics, first at the University of Florida and for the last 20 years at UT Austin.  For the past decade, he has served as senior associate athletic director for events and operations at UT Austin, where he managed an expansive portfolio of activities, functions, projects, and events.  There is hardly any aspect of intercollegiate athletics that Jim hasn’t had direct, hands-on experience in managing and influencing.

We are very fortunate to have such an exceptional leader join us at this critical point in the evolution of our program.  Jim has unparalleled experience and a proven track record at one of the most highly respected programs in the nation.  With the opening of College Park Center and our move to the Western Athletic Conference in July 2012, this is a tremendous opportunity for our athletics program to advance to even higher levels of regional and national competition.

Jim’s appointment is effective February 1.  Please join me in welcoming him to campus and to Maverick Country.

Sincerely,

James D. Spaniolo

President
