Mean Green Win Sixth Straight With 2-0 Victory

DENTON, Tex. (10/14/07) – At this pace there might be any records left to break for the North Texas women’s soccer team. The Mean Green methodically dispatched of South Alabama 2-0 at the NT Soccer Field to improve to 12-2, the best start in school history.

The win is the Mean Green’s sixth straight as North Texas remains perfect at home (8-0) and in Sun Belt Conference play (6-0).

Junior Brittany Cleveland scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season in the 9th minute of play. Freshman Janaye Woods set up Cleveland when she found her way through the South Alabama defense and had her initial shot deflected right to Cleveland.

Freshman goalkeeper Mandy Hall made two saves critical following the Mean Green’s goal to keep the Jaguars (7-5-2, 2-3-1) off the board.

The first half remained tight throughout as the Mean Green (12-2, 6-0) carried a 1-0 lead into the break.

After the break was a different story as North Texas was in command for the entire 45 minutes.

North Texas extended its lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute of play when Cleveland was fouled in the box setting up a penalty kick. Kendall Juett buried the shot low on the left side for her seventh goal of the season.

The Mean Green outshot the Jaguars 14-4 in the second frame.

Hall made seven saves on the afternoon to notch her second career shutout.

The Mean Green now faces a daunting four-game road trip beginning next Friday against UALR.
