DNJ article says MUTS have only sold 500 tickets for their first ever bowl game while Troy has about 5,000 so far for the NO Bowl. Sure isn't gonna help the conference get additional bowl game invites if we can't send folks ! sad.gif

Well, would you want to go to Detroit in late December? Any time?

But, ya, that number is not good for the conference.

Looks like UNT is the only Sun Belt school that can actually get fans to bowl games.

When they're all in mid-December in New Orleans?  The Motor City Bowl is the coldest bowl game our Sun Belt schools have drawn since the league's inception.  It is also the closest one to Christmas.

No excuses. MTSU has whined, moaned and complained every year that we have gone to New Orleans that they were A)The better team in 01, B)Just as good and had a rabid fan base in 02 and 03 or C)Unlucky when we beat them in 04 and 05.

It's time for our conference's "sexy" team to step up and prove they care about their MUTS. Otherwise quit your bitchin.

Sun Belt schools have a hard time even getting people to go to their home games. I'm not surprised that they won't travel to bowl games. This is why the Texas(Houston) Bowl wanted nothing to do with the Sun Belt conference. Some people were pissed about that but until schools in the Belt can grow their fan bases to a respectable level this league is not going to get much love from the bowl games.

I was just about to come back on here and post something similar, got caught up at work. Lately my job has gotten in the way of my gmg.com time laugh.gif

so, 'Ditto'. Took me a lot less time biggrin.gif

But seriously. When was the last time you guys went to a bowl game? If it were my school Id be sure to make the trip, regardless of location. If MTSU doesnt represent well, it will be a tough sell next time our conference has the opportunity.

If MUTS is the sexy team in the Sun Belt then this league has big problems...oh wait a minute, IT DOES!

Day-after-Christmas bowl games located in the Great Lakes states are hard sells for southern schools especially in the lowly Sun Belt. It doesn't help that the media already is trashing our reputation as an opponent for Central Michigan not being decent enough. It's probably enough to scare most of our UTK alumni who'd rather take the trip to watch the Vols play in Florida.
