Is D2 replacing JUCO for some players?

Not to hijack the attention away from Jake, but @Sanoe Valente asked great questions about the portal, and Jake nailed it. Is "D2 the new JUCO" option for players? Would it make sense for a D2 program to embrace the role with a chance of getting players that they might not have otherwise had a chance for?

I can’t imagine they’d be excited about it. Kind of like how some P5’s may view the G5’s as a developmental league.  There may be some coaches that embrace it, but I can’t imagine those coaches would embrace it for the long term.

It's possible. D2 gives out scholarships, still have a full university experience and they put guys in the NFL too. Being a D2 star is better than being a D1 walk-on in many cases.

This is why perception is everything. The K-State AD said back in the 1980s that because the football team was in disarray (30+ straight losses) people also assumed the university was in disarray too.

A conference doesn't necessarily determine the quality of the degree or the school experience outside of sports.
