Unsung Heroes of the Run Game

I've been watching a lot of the highlights and replays of games this season and two guys I think have been huge for the offense but don't get very much credit are O'keeron Rutherford and Kelvin Smith. Rutherford doesn't show up too much on the stat sheet because of the bounty of talented receivers we, but he is in on quite a few snaps to block. He's a big bodied receiver and he really lays it out there on the snaps I see him on. If you watch a lot of big run highlights you'll see him out there. The same with Kelvin Smith. Kelvin Smith may be one of the most complete tight ends in this league. I wish we'd use him more in the pass, but I think Darden replaces him in certain sets. If you follow his motions and his blocks he's incredibly powerful and incredibly consistent in picking up his assignments. You can often find him down field picking up a couple of extra blocks too. His role has been so important to our success on the ground. Anyway, just thought i'd mention a couple guys who aren't our limelight guys, but take out a lot of trash in the offense.

Great post. Kelvin Smith is definitely an unsung hero and extremely valuable in the success of the offense. Definitely one of the best TE’s in the league, and just a RS Soph (like 90% of our skill position talent).
