  1. We need SL to work out. He has built the bridges we desperately needed for so long. I don’t know for sure, but I think we lose all that and any potential momentum if he’s let go after 2021. There is no way Wren’s seat is truly hot. Anyone saying so is just trying to throw their own matches on his chair. Let’s get a DC and right this ship.

  2. Can’t imagine Baker would be let go for football before having ever actually had a chance to make a hire of his own.

  3. ULM hires a Bowden that has been overlooked by every other program in this damn country and RichRod who's only long term success is his nickname. Can we at least wait and see who is hired before we burn this to the ground? It is all speculation at best.

  4. Shouldn't Wren share some of the blame if this goes down as expected?

  5. With the new developments in the transfer portal, did the coaches have sit down meeting with the players? Did they hear how they are seen as fitting in moving forward and not like it? There are always many reasons for transferring. Note - Every year players enter the portal and not all find new homes.

  6. Players also need to be careful. Look at Garnett Burke. He hit the portal in Oct, and they last I saw he was tweeting offer from Kilgore JC and D2 (?) schools. The grass is not always greener

  7. is the longest post without any information in the history of the forum?

  8. You rambled off a bunch of guys assuming that A, they’d be interested, and B, they’d be an improvement over what was one of the hottest up and coming young coaches in college football. At this point we need Seth as much as he needs us, our job would be 100 times more attractive if he is hired away than it will be if he is the 7th consecutive coach to be fired here over the last 39 years.

  9. So far, no big deal on these transfers. Now if we lose Stout, either Murphy, or Novil to the transfer portal, we're in trouble.

  10. I'd be more worried if they were starters. Backups chasing playing time? It's the new normal.

  11. if we repeat last year he is gone. I hope he goes undefeated and wins conference. If he wins 7-8 games and a bowl and the overall teams shows improvement I think he stay. If he wins 2 to 4 games I don't think a snowballs chance in hell he will make it to another season.

  12. I agree with everything you said.. besides this sentence. I dont think Wren seat is hot at all. His last two hires (softball and Basketball) are winning conference championships

  13. The Mean Green Nation thanks all of you who are donating the 5+ million to buy out Seth's contract. Wren is in his office waiting for the checks to be dropped off. Please hurry!

  14. Same. These guys are all guys I would’ve expected to leave even if the rules hadn’t changed, or guys who would’ve had their eligibility expire this season anyways. Sanders and Johnson, best of luck to them, but we needed to move on from them at least from being in the starting lineup. Doubt they want to spend their extra season sitting or teaching a guy taking their spot. Here is who else we know is leaving: - Greg White, redshirt junior receiver who would probably be our 5th receiver behind guys who have more remaining eligibility than him. - Brian Parish, redshirt junior offensive lineman who would be at best out 4th tackle with the guys ahead of him having as much or more eligibility remaining. - Chris Thornton, redshirt junior linebacker who was never in the two deep except when we were thin at LB because of COVID.

  15. Yeah, get back to me when it’s not little used guys or grad transfers. Otherwise, I’m gonna go about my day.

  18. You would think that the Million+ we are paying him, that he would have a virtual talk with all us paying his bill. Then, we would not have to be here speculating on "where are we going in the future".

  20. You generally have great takes and your coordinator info is exactly spot on, but this isn’t true. Wren and boosters both pushed the extension hard. Look I’m team Wren all the way but Wren has actively lobbied for extensions and more money across all sports (as he should) from soccer to Grant. He wants to expand budgets and this is a way to gradually do that. Football has been his Achilles heel so far - I don’t believe SL has accepted enough guidance from WB. That is on Wren, the department was given a much greater budget and it’s up to him to make certain its used correctly rather than wasted. With this coordinator hire Wren is finally saying use the money you have we aren’t just expanding your asst. pool $ with out results since it’s already a healthy amount for a G5. This is a welcome change in my book, but what SL does with this new normal is going to be pivotal to his coaching trajectory. He can take advice and adapt like he did with recruiting or have his time here cut short. Hoping he’s able to learn a new trick.

  21. Good Lord people. White had been passed by on the depth chart by younger, better players. I wish him well, but come on. Our WR's all realize if they work hard, they can put up big numbers and become an All-American in this system. Darden is their example.

  22. Apparently, about to announce the new DC. Not making him terminate coaches, that he doesn't want.

  24. To get back on subject, I think we will be see a much improved defense with the new DC. I anticipate an announcement in the near future.

  25. So now, in your opinion, in addition to not being able to coach Seth has played no role in the improved recruiting?
    3 points
  26. Maybe there were team meetings on Monday/Tuesday. Perhaps it was also due to players not enrolling for the new semester Under the college transfer policy, when a student-athlete informs a school that he wishes to transfer, that institution has two business days to enter that athlete's name into a national transfer portal. Once the student-athlete's name is in the database, other coaches from any school can contact that individual.

  27. Maybe the announcement is coming and thats why some guys are jumping ship.

  28. I don’t know why people keep thinking he’s going to turn this thing around. Even when he had the talent he showed he couldn’t capitalize.

  29. This. I also have to wonder if the coaches straight up told them, "you aren't in our future plans so consider going elsewhere."

  30. Wow it’s almost as if we had to replace a historic starting quarterback, quarterback coach, both line coaches, and all three coordinators in a year where we skipped spring practice.
    3 points
  31. sorry but how was this not his extension? I agree he did not hire, but he was the AD for the extension, if he is not the one extending his coaches, then why is he AD? Just asking?

  32. Another assumption. I get it, SL is on the hot seat but my goodness, we are kicking him out the door before we know who his DC will be next year and before the season is even played.

  33. Such a tired response. Let's break down your criticisms. 1. Low energy: That is your take and his "public persona." You aren't at practice or in the locker room. Just because he isn't ranting and raving up and down the sideline is ridiculous. Did his players quit on him? I didn't see anything that would suggest that. 2. Underperformed: I would suggest that he over delivered in years one and two and then the state of the program he inherited caught up to him. His best recruiting classes are now becoming upperclassmen and he has built good relationships with HS coaches in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and even Arizona. His first coaching staff was so well though of that a number of coaches were poached by bigger programs. He also just signed one of our highest rated recruits ever. Have we had bad losses? Absolutely, but that is why I said 2021 is our make or break year. His recruits have matured and been in the system, relationships with the high school coaches have been established, facilities have and are being upgraded and it is time to produce. 3. Mass Transfers: Really? Chris Thornton, buried on the depth chart. Brian Parish, buried on the depth chart. Chandler Anthony, buried on the depth chart. Joe Ozougwu? Still out there on the market. Justin Booker-Brown? Walk-on. Garnett Burke, good talent but obviously had some issues and Makayle Sanders. The one I hated to see go is Cameron Johnson, but we have the talent to fill that spot. In return, we picked up the OL Farrell from OSU, DB's Wilson and Davis and they are all rated higher than the players that left. So we had seven enter the portal. No disrespect intended, but Anthony, Parish, Thornton and Booker-Brown weren't going to crack the two deep. Ozougwu was serviceable but replaceable as is Sanders. I thought Johnson had a solid year on a poor defense and who knows about Burke. Wouldn't call that mass transfers. Hell, if it weren't for the Covid virus, Sanders and Johnson would be done anyway. 4. Very Little Reinforcements: Too early to tell, but the majority of our best talent are underclassmen. I know we all want transfers, but their is a crap-load of talent still out there and the most important thing right now is to fill out his staff and have a strong signing day in February. I like that SL wants to build through the high school ranks and then fill in with transfers where needed. Again, he has to win this year, period. But throwing him out right now is short-sighted and knee jerk. You can say every team had to deal with the craziness of this f'ing virus, but not many were replacing a DC, had to replace their QB Coach right at the beginning the year and every team was effected differently by who was sick, who had been exposed, etc... 2021 will be telling for the program and SL's future as our, or anyone's, head coach.

  34. Again, Littrell is not going anywhere next year. Why waste your time with I guess optimism that he is magically going to be gone. Even if NT had the buyout money, I don't think NT would make a change. The question is what will happen after next year when termination will still be very costly. My guess if he breaks even or better, there will be no consideration of making a change. Four or five wins and Littrell will certainly be on the hot seat. Less than that he probably will be gone. If NT wins 8 or over, as improbable has it seems, he could be hired away.

  35. So nobody specific. Just "anyone but Littrell". Fair enough. No. Not at this time.

  36. Carthel is employed. Who else? I'm curious who you have in mind.

  37. Right, my thoughts as well. Even Novil I would hate to see go but I wouldn’t take that as the world ending given the circumstances that he is a grad transfer and he gave us four years already. KD Davis, Murphy twins, Stout, Gaddie, if guys like that were to go in the portal that would be a sign that something is wrong. Based on the statements these players are making and where they were on the depth chart and in their career, that doesn’t seem like the case.

  38. Typical old Denton folk. Constantly making excuses. Other schools went through the same adversity as us with much better results.

  39. For a point of reference WKU has 20 players in the portal heading out and they have already brought in 12 https://247sports.com/college/western-kentucky/Season/2021-Football/TransferPortal/ Seems WKU and Texas State are doing major roster turnovers

  41. Hindsight is clearly 20-20 here. When Littrell signed the last deal, it was EVERYONE'S extension. There were maybe a handful of people around here who were pissed about him losing the NO Bowl & NM Bowl, but for the most part everyone was extremely nervous when Littrell flirted with KSSt. & were 99% on-board with an extension to keep the best up-and-coming HC in C-USA at North Texas... at least until the next P5 school came calling the following offseason. Flash-forward & here we are, 2 years later (2 years without Harrell?)... the regression is STAGGERING. I don't believe anyone saw this coming. I understand the budget constraints wont allow to buyout now, but Wren's seat is now hot as well, so if I were him, I'd be raising funds on the side and be ready to end the suffering immediately following this upcoming season. Littrell would be a fool to believe he's not coaching for his job this upcoming season. I'm extremely impressed (and thankful) with how he was able to sign the class he signed in December, because these kids , and more importantly, their parents, aren't dumb. They see the trajectory. I'd expect a big step back in recruiting this year unless he's somehow able to turn this ship around quickly. Fingers crossed!

  42. Right there with you, but be prepared to get down voted into oblivion by all of the Littrell homers here. Already deep into the offseason and most of the Defensive coordinators on the market have been snatched up, we have made hardly any moves in the transfer portal while our conference mates continue to snatch up talent and pass us by, and there doesn't seem to be any urgency. At this point, I'm completely prepared to underwhelmed by the hire.

  43. Nothing against Ekeler, I'm sure he would probably improve over what we had last season, but it would be underwhelming hearing his name announced as next DC.

  44. Good luck to him, I think he saw writing on the wall here and wants to play.

  45. He also said it's important that the NCAA makes sure its enforcement system provides real consequences for those who violate NCAA rules, but does it in a way that doesn't harm the innocent. I am sure he means p-5 schools when he states "the innocent".
