  1. The Mean Green Women's Tennis Team played well Friday afternoon and beat #75 Kansas 4-3. The match was actually clinched by UNT at 4-1, but the final two singles matches were played out and Kansas won both to bring the score to 4-3. UNT won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, followed by singles wins by Shestakova (#2 slot) in two sets, Sprinkmeyer (#5 slot) in two sets, and Galieva (#6 slot) in three sets. The 3 UNT singles losses were all close 3-set matches. UNT is 4-0 against Kansas in the all-time series. UNT also beat UAB on Wednesday on an extremely windy day in Denton by a score of 4-1. The match was much closer than the score indicated. Knowing how to handle the Denton wind gave us the advantage. Playing at home in front of a good crowd helped in both matches. A close loss to UTSA last week in rain-delayed play in San Antonio was a blow to the team's conference record, which Is now 1-1. However, the full schedule has been full of ranked team so the 6-10 record it is somewhat misleading of the team's ability. Most of the matches have been close, but we have had difficulty closing them out. The next two matches, both in Denton, will be tough. Wednesday we play #20 TCU and Sunday #39 Houston. Winning one of those matches would help us get a better seeding in the conference tournament at Rice on April 16-19. Both Rice and Marshall have a national ranking and should be favorites barring some upsets before tournament time. I think our team is in the upper half of conference teams and could do well. Seeing how we play next week should give us a better idea of how confident the team is at this time. Also I watched Minying Llang, our recruit from China who enrolled at mid-term, hit with one of our former players. It is hard to tell someone's true ability until they actually compete, but her strokes looked very smooth and powerful. She looks as if she could really be something special. Too bad she is not eligible to play until next fall. She would have definitely helped the team this spring. GO MEAN GREEN!

  2. RJ's (in the shadow of the Corn Kits sign) was the greatest burger ever made in Denton. I will fight any man that says otherwise. It was the Steve's BBQ of burgers. You could also get your RV detailed at the same time. Unfortunately RJ was raised up to that grill in the sky, and the business didn't survive him.

  3. clever, but nah...I've no interest in a bunch of losers who couldn't hack it at a D1 school...neither on the floor or in the classroom, let alone those who can't even win the Special Olympics of basketball tournaments, and who chose to live in that back-water, redneck, high-school football worshiping shit-hole that is Stephenville. I tend to set a higher bar for those I want to homosexually sodomize. that is what you meant, right?

  5. It was definitely a good day to be out watching practice...I might add that I found the silver cross that Kenny Byers lost and was able to return it to him. So, let's just say...I recovered a fumble at the scrimmage today! :-) Good times spent with Silver Eagle talking Mean Green football and watching some spring ball. Football season simply cannot get here fast enough!

  6. Good for Barnes for having a sack and not canning all of his assistants to save his hide. I'd bet he ends up at the other UT, in Tennessee.

  7. hard to tell where the team sits right now, they play some tight matches but then throw in some questionable losses, the UTSA loss will be a tough one come seeding time. Rice and Marshall probably 1/2, but after that who knows, UTSA beat UNT, but MTSU, FIU, UAB all beat UTSA. There is no consistency from match to match. beat Kansas but lose to UTSA and NW State They can be anywhere from 4 seed to an 8 seed depending on coaches meeting.

  9. Stopped by Time Machine tonight based on this thread. Burger, fries and root beer. Verdict: Legit and worth a visit.

  10. The 5 reps HAD to be due to injury. There is no way a 6'5" 300 lb. four year starting offensive tackle for a division one school could only muster that much. NO WAY.

  11. Quick story if you don't mind. This place was originally called MG's. Before they opened, I walked past several times per week. I stopped in during the remodeling process (the building used to house a Braums). I learned the new restaurant was being opened by a father and son named Gary (?) and Mike (?). I asked what they were going to call the place and they said they weren't sure, but maybe GM's. I suggested they call it MG's and use a little British sports car as their gimmick. They opened as MG's and at least for a while, had one side of a MGB and the front end of the car on display. As the owner of an MG, I'm a little sensitive about people using samples of my car for restaurant décor, but that's just one of several little items I'm trying to deal with each day. Whew. I promised a short story. J GO MEAN GREEN

  12. There are supporters who will back baseball before any other sport. I don't know how many and to what extent but I believe that baseball will begin happening in the next couple of years if the economy hasn't killed us. We may have the lowest number of men's sports in the FBS. We have football, basketball, the running sports (indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country) and golf. Outside of football, that's about 30 men on scholarship. Wouldn't help a lot when being considered by a higher-profile conference.

  14. I guess I mean overall. I don't think we will see Akunne-level production, but like you said, the other LBs provided limited support, and they led to many mistakes. With Cosh's background, I suspect he will pay special attention to that group.

  15. Skladany was way, way more laid back than what I just saw from Cosh. It worked for him. Hopefully coach Cosh's results are similar, or better.

  20. They voted out UNCC, who also had a really good basketball program, for the very thing they WILL be voted out for. So... See ya.

  25. I always wonder about the idea that NT will be successful because this is a hot bed of baseball. That hasn't been over helpful in basketball or football. I also don't buy this cash strapped excuse. There are few g5 programs that have significant financial advantages over NT, yet most have baseball. However, that being stated; baseball should be delayed until NT can fund a first rate program. NT doesn't need another mediocre sport.

  26. When it happens time and again under different program administrators, that speaks to a problem at the top. 14 years to get to this level...

  28. People who care fix the problem and make sure it doesn't happen again. People who don't listen politely, send you a manipulative email when they should be looking into and fixing the problem, and don't do squat about the problem, which causes the same thing to happen again. Sound familiar? And you are right. KRAM is not responsible for RV's job. It's nice of him to do it, but not his responsibility.
