  1. Heck, there are some things I prefer about Apogee. For example: 1. I prefer the all concrete support structure. Steel supports are perfectly fine, but if we had the budget, I would have preferred concrete. 2. I prefer how close to the field the first row of seats are at Apogee. At the 50 yard line, the first row at Houston is probably 10-15 feet further away from the sideline than Apogee. 3. I prefer Apogee's LEED platinum certification, and the incorporation of the windmills for power needs. 4. I prefer that Apogee was built right next to the interstate. We looked at an interstate location, but ruled it out due to space constraints and infrastructure expense. Certain differences were dictated by needs and location. For example: 1. North Texas apparently needed banquet space. And so a large portion of the club is a dedicated to that banquet room with all the windows. It looks very nice, but we already had banquet facilities. Our club level will look totally different. Much more of an upscale bar feel. 2. The UH stadium is located 3 miles from downtown Houston right in the middle of campus. North Texas is located in a smaller town. The settings and views, not to mention the parking situation, are completely different. Simply due to stadium placement, we have 3800 parking spots within 250 yards of the stadium. The land chosen by UNT for Apogee apparently doesn't lend itself to that kind of parking access. Certain differences were design choices that aren't "right" or "wrong" but will evoke opinons based on personal preference: 1. Placement of premium seats; 2. Horseshoe vs. bowl 3. Open concourses vs. vomitories. We each have our controversial bits: 1. The mesh skin exterior at UH; 2. The winged end zone at North Texas. Certain things are very similar: 1. Lots of concessions and restrooms; 2. TV monitors at every concession stand; 3. Wide concourses; 4. Lots of leg room between rows; 5. Lower seating below grade; 6. Field turf, etc. And certain things are just grander at the Houston stadium, which you would expect given the price difference: 1. The video board is twice as big; 2. The club seats are padded; 3. We have five times as many chairback seating options including loge boxes, party decks and suite decks; 4. We incorporated our marching band facilities into the football stadium. As I said originally, I really like Apogee Stadium. I think y'all did a terrific job with it. And there are certain things about it that I prefer over our stadium. Would I trade stadiums with you? Nope. But then I am biased, and I would expect UNT fans to decline a trade based on bias too.

  2. Offseason mascot talk, classic. They should have never changed old Scrappy. Eugene Levy Scrappy is the worst.

  3. Ugh, I hate what Rock Perry's cronies have been repeatedly trying to do to Bill Powers. It's not mismanagement, he's been an excellent President. It's that he's not on board with Perry's plan for a $10k Bachelor's mostly done online over two years. He's trying to force large scale institutions to adopt this shit form of an education and Powers isn't having any of it. EDIT: Apparently this has more to do with the Admissions practices at UT and their Board of Regents have been pulling a full-on withc hunt on Powers over it. It's gotten so out of hand, that you may recall the State Legislature forming a committee to find legal ground to impeach one of their Regents over his personal vendetta investigations. What a crock of a Board.

  8. Did we pay someone to make a new Scrappy without knowing what it would look like, and therefore we were committed to it no matter how it turned out? Otherwise, I want to meet the man that saw a preliminary drawing and approved it.

  11. It's probably just a little misunderstanding regarding the hiring of the new football coach.

  12. Maybe inappropriate use of state funds? One could only hope that we were not the leaders in this area, but more of a follower.

  15. This would be a bad outcome and is just an obsession with beating UT. This does not help the big picture of the program. No way I would sacrifice beating smu and utsa and a winning season for a UT win and a 6-6 season. A UT win and a 6-6 season only gives us one week of enjoyment. And does a win over UT change the perception of the program with 6 losses? And some of those losses would have to be against bad teams. Would it close any gaps with UT? No. it would be considered fluke and Texas would get a pass with it being strongs first game. on the other hand, we allow teams that we are in competition with to beat us. You allow rice and smu to pull away and utsa to pass us. A 6-6 season would also mean we would be 6-5 and fighting to be bowl eligible and lose that last game to utsa. Horrible season. Great first few Weeks though, then a major choke job.

  16. I posed the question because I think both are "must wins" for different reasons. SMU, as mentioned in the thread, boosts local exposure and stature. Also, it gives a leg up in local recruiting. Oh, and watching them lose to ANYONE is a treat. UTSA is a must because they are starting to gain some serious traction. Dave Campbell's is full of references to how quickly they have become a legitimate player. Perception in the CUSA pecking order is important, especially when there are kids that we go head to head for (though I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how you expect to pass college classes when you can't make this easy choice). Putting last season's loss in the "fluke" column would go a long way to showing that we are indeed on the rise.

  17. No working out with team. Not sure if the suspension is similar to Abbe, where he pretty much got kicked off the team and lost his ship. If they are not on ship, then no summer school classes paid for, and that would mean no room and board. Even if it is just summer session 2, it cost them one or two paid classes towards a degree, and they have to pay for living expenses for two months. the way I read it, its just a suspension from team activities, but they remain on ship.

  18. If I had to pick a guaranteed win and loss, it would be a UTSA win. That probably gets us an 0-2 start, but we can rebound against la tech and Nichols st. I dont want to be on a roll and lose the very last game. Especially with a shot to play for the cusa ship and knock UTSA out of it. We would also have a shot at a better bowl, and possibly a shot on national TV against a ranked Marshall team for the cusa ship. If we only have two or three losses, we may also have a shot at being ranked. A loss at the end would hurt rankings. Bigger picture, UTSA is the better win.

  23. How about we keep the home and home games equal this time around? I don't want my Mean Green having to make a dozen consecutive trips to Kentucky to play you guys every season. My biggest concern is that the days of great basketball between our teams is behind us for the time being,

  24. I still wonder why UTA so abruptly gave up football. I have always thought there was a big scandal about to break involving their program. They had just built a new stadium and Curtis seems to have the program on an upswing. I do beleive NT beat them in their last game and I guess the humiliation was just too much.

  26. Ohhhhhh UNT90. Have you ever seen Grumpy Old Men? Good movie. As for needing help, no I got it, you don't like the guy. We all get it, in the words of Billy Crystal "even the cows can program the VCR by now". Let it go. He is getting another year no matter how many more negative post you make. As for your stats. Well they are right there in your profile.

  29. Let's remember he played for UNT. One of ours...not theirs...does not make sense to take a cheap shot at SMU if you disparage us in the process. BTW I remember his first game at the Super Pit...was here to play football but suited up and got ten assists.

  31. That exterior is butt ugly. With rising construction costs, we were very lucky to get Apogee built when we did.

  32. Only one explanation makes sense for the current version of Scrappy: they wanted extra publicity on every "ugliest mascots in the NCAA" list. Thanks to O'bannon, we don't have to worry about kids stumbling into new Scrappy when playing a mascot game on NCAA '15.
