Did any of them replace a coach who won 6 games in 4+ years and had only been a high school coach before taking over? Not trying to be a Mac apologist--flame away if you think I am--but he's already won 9 games, where the previous regimes won 13 games in the 6 years before him. We all want a winner here, but you gotta get a qb that can play and lines that can block or pressure the other team. McCarney's recruiting and development can really be judged as we move forward here. But the 2nd season, at least in my opinion, is his last honeymoon year here--going forward he knows that the expectation is to have winning seasons or he won't be here beyond the 2014 season.

Probably not...only UNT would be stupid enough to hire a high school coach...for the second time!!! (remember Dennis!)

Freeze, Pasqualoni and Chryst are all first year coaches

Pasqualoni was hired January 2011.

http://www.ctpost.com/football/article/UConn-hires-former-Syracuse-coach-Pasqualoni-955560.php

"....January 14, 2011...UConn officially hired the former Syracuse coach Thursday night, giving him a five-year contract. Pasqualoni's salary, according to one source close to the coach, will be comparable to the one Edsall was receiving. Edsall made $1.6 million last year....."

But your correct about Freeze and Chryst.

The rest of the list of coaches who won in 2012 as first year coaches.

Urban Meyer, Ohio State, $4,000,000. 12-0

Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M, $2,000,000. 10-2....BCS final rank #10. May have given #1 Bama their only loss of the season?

Jim Mora, UCLA, $1,935,000. 9-4.Final BCS rank #17

Gus Malzahn, Ark State, $156,000, 9-3.....Sunbelt Conference Championship....

Tim DeRuyter, Fresno State, $650,000. 9-3

Odus Mitchell didn't do so bad here. He was the Marshall High School coach before coming to NTSU.

We do not have time for a 5 to 7 or even a 4 year plan. There has to be urgency to WIN in 2013. Nothing worse than a 6-6 is acceptable. BTW Blankenship @ Tulsa came directly from Tulsa Union H.S., but he had experienced collge assitants.

Blakenship was an assistant for four years at Tulsa before being named head coach. He last coached high school in 2005.
