Unt Baseball...

Title IX caused it to be dropped in the 80s. Probably also disinterest at the time, but I can't say for sure. RV has said he wants to turn his attention to it after the football stadium is completed, so hopefully we'll have a team and a ballpark within the next five years.

It was never a fully funded sport and survived more along the lines of a club sport. I wouldn't say disinterest, just a cheap administration that never funded anything correctly and Title IX just put an end to any chance it had of surviving. Fact: The NT baseball team beat the ranked Pete Incaviglia lead Okie State Cowboys.

You are correct, baseball was only started because it was a requirement of the Southland conference and NT did the very minimum. No field much less a stadium, 11/2 ships, and a coach who only was paid the max that would not reduce his social security payments. Given the funding or lack of, NT actually was fairly competitive. The Southland after a few years dropped the requirement and NT dropped baseland.

That's a great story. I'd like to see us start it up again. That'd be fun on a sunny day to see some green and pinstripes. lol.

Thanks so much! I'll have to run through those threads as well.

I'm Blinn College alumni. Majored in Computer Information Technology. As it turrns out, what was industry standard for rubber-meet-the-road IT, is no longer. So, I thought to sharpen my skills, gain a marketing chip and for greater knowledge and personal enrichment...bachelor time.
