You beat me to it, Lifer. TCU's other away game is at OU. Non-conference away games total about 500 miles. Almost 8,000 is conference games only and that's without San Diego State, its most distant conference opponent.

There are a number of universities that are not known for their common senese when it comes to conferences. TCU should not be in the Mountain West. FAU and FIU should not be in the Sun Belt. South Florida should not be in the Big East. Louisiana Tech should not be in the WAC. Boston College should not be in the ACC. UTEP should not be in CUSA (and Marshall and East Carolina are stretches). In my opinion, if you are more than 500 miles away from your nearest conference rival, you should not be in that conference.

At least the MWC is well founded. Check out the 1aa Pioneer League. Campbell from Buies Creek, NC plays a conference game in San Diego on top of playing schools in Indiana and Iowa. I would not be surprised if this conference wins for most miles traveled in a season.
