If a guy leaves UNT for the portal should they be allowed to enter the HOF or return to coach?

To be honest, I have no idea how individuals get into the HOF.  Are there eligibility requirements to even be considered?  If so, what are they?  For example, to be eligible is a student-athlete required to earn a degree from UNT and compete a minimum of three seasons or something?  Who decides what individuals are inducted?

Answered my own question...seems pretty loosey goosey with only some "basic guidelines" and a someone who "brought credit" to the University and had a "special impact" on Mean Green Athletics.

Established in 1981, the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame acknowledges former student-athletes, coaches, and administrators whose accomplishments brought credit to the University of North Texas and had a special impact on Mean Green athletics.

Any person may nominate an individual for consideration by the North Texas Hall of Fame Selection Committee. The following are basic guidelines for considering a nominee:

  • The person should have made an outstanding contribution to North Texas athletics.
  • The person should have an honorable and respectable image since leaving the University of North Texas.
  • Candidates are not eligible for induction until at least five years after they left the University of North Texas.
  • Stronger consideration will be given those student-athletes who graduated from the University of North Texas.

Nominees are placed on the ballot by the North Texas Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which is made up of 10 individuals with strong ties to UNT (including multiple Hall of Fame members) and have been designated by the athletic department, including the president of the North Texas Letterwinners Association.

The Selection Committee will place 10 names on the ballot each year, with no more than five nominees from any one sport. The final ballot will be distributed to the following voters: active, dues-paying members of the Letterwinners Association; HOF inductees and McCain Award recipients; and the Selection Committee.

A maximum of six former athletes, coaches, and administrators may be inducted in a year (including the McCain Award honoree, if presented). No more than three individuals from any one sport may be selected in any year. Nominees are not selected for induction are automatically rolled onto the ballot the next year and the selection committee will fill the remaining ballot slots at their annual meeting. A nominee may remain on the ballot for five consecutive years and then must roll off for at least one year before reconsideration by the Selection Committee.

No more than six individuals are inducted into the Hall of Fame each year.

Working here, absolutely fine.  HOF, absolutely NOT.

Take TP.  If he were to make it in the pros, he's going to be listed as a Kansas State player/alum on every single bio that is shown from this point forward.  He simply cannot be a UNT HOF player when he'll be known by everyone else as coming out of KSU.  TP was awesome the past two years here for us, but he made a choice and left.  The NIL is a reality now.  However, the money KSU is paying him is his reward.  You do have a choice.  Stay and be immortalized in our HOF.  Leave and take the money.  You don't get both.

We need to set our standards higher, and stop thinking small time.
