  1. Just thought I'd post this here and share it with the board. Our oldest received his official acceptance letter from UNT yesterday. We're really excited for him! Now I get to buy "UNT Dad" stuff! Anyway, just wanted to share the news from a pumped parent.

  2. I personally think Coach Doh is one of the greatest coaches of all time and if SMU were smart they would lock him down for at least another 10 years to be safe.

  5. Wait Cooley, how can you not be a Walton fan? He stepped up when called upon after the grades debacle. Hit a ton of big shots. The guy is a flat out gamer. Without him, we wouldn't have been playing in the championship game, that's for sure. He improved as the year went on, and stepped up in big moments. He was also great on help defense, as it seemed like he took 3 charges a game. I'm sure his minutes will go down with CJ and Jordan coming back, but I wouldn't just cut him out completely.

  7. Tony doesnt need to play the 5, thats what Odah for. Tony will play the 4... Were just too deep to even talk about a starting 5, the players know what kind of team they have and wont be butt hurt to come off the bench. Theyre all about winning a championship, not their individual stats

  8. I pulled this from Brett Vito's blog from last August after Clarke committed to North Texas: "Overlander has been going to UNT games since the third grade. A lot of guys want to get out of town for college. Not Overlander. He wanted to stay home so his parents could see him play."

  14. June arrives in Dallas and promptly releases a number of players from the scholarship. It is announced June is going to Arizona State as their head coach. It is announced that June is not going to Arizona State, but is staying at SMU. A story is fabricated that June wanted to stay in Dallas to work on his inner-city ministry. (Google search for this ministry pulls up nothing) A player reports to the media that June was recruiting him to $MU and telling him that he would take him to Arizona State. $MU loses a number of recruits when his best recruiter, Klemm, leaves for UCLA. $MU picks up two committments from players that had given us their verbal, yet decommitted and went to $MU. Kyle Padron quits. Sounds like a program and a coach I want to commit 4/5 years of my life. Good luck Rice and Walling.

  15. Being new to UNT with my son just signing 2/1, seems to be alot of excitement around UNT FOOTBALL with Coach Mac. A great start to next season is the spring game 4/21. I know it is currently scheduled at 2 pm. Many schools use this as a huge recruiting tool for the next class. How GREAT would it be if APOGEE was packed out for the spring game???!!! Recruits could see how the GREEN NATION rocks. I know many of us football junkies will be in major football withdrawals by then.

  16. I can now be excited about this incoming talent... His dad is our new house insurance agent. My wife and his father had an extensive talk about his excitement in being at UNT and talking to him about our excellent Kines program. He sounded very high on UNT even after our lose. Im ready to see him knock down some threes....

  17. For real. He's been there for what 6 years? Is that really enough time to get his players in there? In my opinion, no. I think he deserves at least another 4 years.

  18. I really like this idea. I too don't believe in retiring numbers, and this suggestion (ceremony to symbolically hand back the jersey) would be an excellent way to get the already-retired numbers back in use. I suggested a couple of years ago that numbers of past record setters be given to players who are the outstanding current players at the same position as those legendary/record setting North Texas players. Using #28 for the outstanding current RB is a good one. However, you could get an argument from different generations of North Texas fans about what number they would want to use. Would it be for our first ever 1K rusher, Leo Taylor (#21)? Or the man who broke his record, the late (great) Bernard Jackson (#23)?. Or Patrick Cobbs (#43)? The list could go on and on. But since Abner Haynes had such a stellar career in the pros (he still holds some Kansas City Chiefs records), #28 would seem to be a safe selection for this position.

  20. not to downplay his achievements... but what did he do? should we retire every players number that breaks an all-time record at UNT? does that mean we should go back and retire all of the numbers of players who have all-time records? like it was said above... you need to do something very special to be considered... doesn't even have to be something on the field

  23. NT03, I still think shooting guard is a weakness. I'm not a Walton fan and would rather give the local freshman the nod. Overlander is not an athelete and will struggle against quicker guards. He will, however, fill a key role for this team. He has grown on me throughout the season and I think will be a more consistent shooter. I maintain that JJ signed him too early before seeing if he could have upgraded the team more. I also penciled him in ahead of Alzee because I don't like a point guard tandem of Chris Jones and Alzee Williams together. We need to open things up for Mitchell, Odoh & Patton. Hearing a Dallas area kid (impact player) maybe be looking to come home due to a lack of playing time and being home sick. This kid would be a major impact player for us.. Has not officially asked for or been granted his release. Looks like Kimball is up at halftime in Austin, If they win, I'm off to see Overlander (Argyle), Kimball & FM Marcus Saturday bring home the gold! This post has been promoted to an article

  24. Good post. I actually tried to go back and find the thread where we made predictions on the season. Alas, ny internet skills were just too lacking (feel free to try). This is about what I expected, even with the suspended ones playing the whole season, so I guess you could say a little better than I expected. I expected about .500 in conference and a run in the conference tournament. Bout right.

  27. No, seriously. Did you read that on an Occupy sign or something? Three years I've pointed out to you specifically that Obama's debt has dwarfed Bush's, and this is your final answer? Funny. The rest of your little rant is so filled with inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and incidental lies that it's painful to even read it. Take your own advice. Think for yourself and quit regurgitating Internet facts that conveniently fit your perception. As for the banana stand, I mean come on... How much clearer can I say, there's always MONEY IN THE BANANA STAND!

  33. Cooley : Just a few months ago you said Clarke shouldn't be a ship player and now you have him starting ? I wasn't a fan of Walton before , but I am now. He struggled at JUCO because he had to run the point and was the only real scorer they had on the team. He had to shoot too many shots that he probably wouldn't normally take. This year he comes in and started off slow(which is typical of a JUCO) , but I thought he really carried this team at times during the season. Several times when we needed a big bucket he was the only one with the balls enough to take a shot. His defense isn't outstanding , but he does have a knack for making plays. I'll agree he does need to improve on his FT % I've only seen Clarke play once , so I'm no expert. But I see no way he starts over Walton. He's probably the better pure shooter , but not overall player at this point Both could be coming off the bench. Do we move Alzee back to the 2 or maybe slide Patton there and have Alzee come in and run both like DJ did for us. Either way , we have a lot of options Just my .02 Grand, Agree on a lot.I would maybe change a few minor things , but overall pretty good report card

  34. Shouldn't comment this late after driving back but I will anyway. I see a lot of criticism of the team and even Mitchell, and I guess that is to be expected after a tough loss. The Belt didn't have a dominate team this year despite Denver and MTSU's records. NT could have won or loss any game in the tournament by a play or two. Give WKU credit they beat NT playing their fourth game in 4 days and they gave maximum effort. It took a probably all time game from Akol their 6'11 jr center who had averaged just under 6 point and 4 rbs a game. I see some blaming Mitchell for poor defense, Akol was not missing and at his height there was no one to stop him. The referees did play a major role in the game by completing missing a series of calls doing WKU's come back. In a game this close it did make a difference and when a player is knocked completely off his feet at mid court; you would expect at least one of the three refs to notice. You hate to lose to WKU and especially with their record this year, but this is not a good NT team and the effort was there. I don't know why JJ continues to use the same offense no matter what the make up of the team, but he has had great success in the tournament. Frankly, NT has Mitchell; undoubtedly the best player in the conference, and Alzee Williams, NT most consistent player and one of the most underrated players in the league. After those two, it is at best an average group filling out the starting five and no depth at all.

  35. And BTW - a fantastic game that had a gut wrenching ending. Even though we had our chances afterward, I figured it wasn't meant to be once that scrambled trey with about 1:15 to go went in. I still am having a hard time dealing with that play, because we'd played really good defense to even force the situation where they had to save the ball from going out of bounds twice, and then BECAUSE we were diving for the ball left a guy open to stick the knife in our chest. Just seemed like destiny for WKU at that point.

I'm happy the officer is well, now I can feel sorry for him for all of the personal gear that was in his car that he has to replace.

  37. The reality is that numerous metrics by which we chart the economy are getting better. They've been on an upward trend for months. You can pretend otherwise if it makes you happier about the Republican chances in November. Here's two of those charts: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/images/recovery-winter1-small.png http://talkingpointsmemo.com/images/recovery-winter2-small.png It must be a bummer to have to root for a worsening economy to get your guy in the White House.

  38. We have never had a president more disrespected than Barack Obama. From day one, many folks have been running scared at the thought that they will lose whatever rights they have enjoyed their whole life. Republican (and Tea Party) candidates use this fear to their advantage by continuing to lie and distort the truth. This guy is not one of us; he's not American, not Christian, hangs around terrorists, he's a socialist etc. I remain shocked that so many continue to embrace this type of bigotry. Despite it all, Mr. Obama remains the consummate professional and adult with these attacks. What has he done? How about keeping this country out of a depression. Saving the US auto industry. Bringing our troops home from a lie, killing the top terrorists, bringing the stock market back, creating jobs month after month, restoring the US imagine around the world Instead of constantly berating the guy and believing all the lies out there because of the color of his skin, we need to thank the guy for bringing us back from the mess of the prior 8 years. Imagine where we would be if the Republicans would try to work with him rather than obstruct everything the man is trying to do; for all of us. Fortunately, the majority of American have not fallen prey to this garbage. Polls have him rising because of the lack of an alternative from the Republican. (or policies) It would be a waste of resources and foolish for Obama to target African American only; when he received 92-95% of their vote. We have never had a president to inherit as many problems upon taking office. Despite the concerted effort of the republican to just sit on the sidelines and hope the economy fails; this president has been the right guy at the right time. Lord knows this may have killed McCain and Sara Palin would have just quit. Keep up the great work Mr. Commander in Chief Sir! Like Tony Mitchell, give us more years. Here's my vote for eliminating forums like this that take away from my day to day escape from the work place and politics. Hell, If I wanted to get pissed off, I can always watch Fox News.

  39. Santorum's religious extremism doesn't have to be demonized. He talks all the time about his obsessions with what people do in their own bedrooms. On the subject of birth control, Santorum is against it. He calls it a "license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. They're supposed to be within marriage, for purposes that are, yes, conjugal ... but also procreative." So if you ever put a rubber on it, Santorum thinks you went against God. If you and your wife used birth control to wait until you were ready to have kids, you went against God. That sound nutty to you?

  40. Ultra left wing politics? Next to Howard Dean, he has to be the most rational thinking and intelligent man I've seen in politics since Bill Clinton. I'm sorry, but the lack of rational thought and civility on the part of the "other side of the aisle" in congress is what's tearing this country apart. The John Burchers have finally taken over the Republican party and Barry Goldwater is probably spinning in his grave right now. Did you know that back when Kennedy and the Democrats were planning their re-election campaign, they went to the Republicans (and Goldwater) and proposed that they have a series of debates around the country and that they TRAVEL TOGETHER ON THE SAME PLANE to the various stops for these debates. It didn't happen, but the Republicans at least seriously considered agreeing to this. Todays Republicans would sneer at such a proposal. For Gods sake, we have a Republican candidate talking about birth control in these terms....."a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be." . It's 2012 and this guy is talking like it's 1912 when it was against the law to even distribute literature on birth control. I watch the Republicans and their bat -hit crazy religious backers and this speech from one of my favorite movies keeps running through my head....especially the last 20 seconds of it.

  41. God I hate when "Socialism" is thrown into the conversation. If Obama is a Socialist, then Reagan was a Fascist. Of course, we both know that is ridiculous. Buzzwords are useless and presidents get way to much credit (or discredit) for what they actually do and the power they hold. I really think if we want to bash people it should be the "great" congressmen/women that do very little, unless it's election time.

  42. It took political courage to order that mission. Americans blamed President Carter for the failed Iran hostage rescue mission, and they should credit Obama with the successful Bin Laden mission. No one is arguing that he's the only one who deserves credit. Many of Obama's top advisors were hedging their bets on whether to go in. Biden was against it. Obama took the chance, trusted the Navy SEALs and justice finally came to Bin Laden. Obama said during the presidential campaign that he'd make the hunt for Bin Laden a top priority. He did. Key provisions of health reform are enormously popular. Seventy one percent of Americans approve of the provision that stops insurers from barring people with pre-existing conditions, according to a January Harris Interactive poll. I don't expect you to credit Obama with the same accomplishments I do. From my perspective as a Democrat and someone who thought Bush dropped the ball on Iraq and Bin Laden, I think Obama's done a hell of a lot and deserves another term. None of the Republicans trying to replace him is offering a positive agenda for what they'd do about things like the health insurance crisis. All they offer is opposition to Obama. Who cares? The time to have that argument was four years ago. His important pre-presidential accomplishment was saving the country from President McCain.

  43. Killed Bin Laden, ended the Iraq war, ousted Qaddafi, saved the auto industry, kept the country out of another Depression, passed Wall Street reform and provided millions of uninsured Americans with coverage. Other than that, nothing.

  44. For as long as they continue to indulge in blatant disrespectful behavior towards a President, who's probably the smartest one we've had since Clinton or Thomas Jefferson, and his only sin is the color of his skin. African Americans for Obama is racist? I'm sorry but you're more reasonable than that.

  47. Having everyone in your league not suck in the non conference is more important than having your team play a tough OOC schedule. Denver's RPI is incredibly high right now, but it's gonna nose dive when they have to play ULM and the like.
