Congrats to Mean Green soccer being ranked #9 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's - South - Poll 2 - August 28, 2012 Link: http://www.nscaa.com...dbb00ab789cf001

UNT is ranked in the South region as opposed to most other Texas schools (central region), because of conference affiliation.

Great start for Coach Hedlund and this young team!

CONGRATULATIONS...and while the team is VERY exciting to watch right now with this young crew, I can only imagine what a CUSA force they will be as the "youngsters" grow into the college game. This is really a bright spot in UNT athletics...has been for some time. Very proud of our soccer ladies!

Great job girls, nice to see this team doing so well especially with all the youth.

I look forward to watching them play next week against nationally ranked Baylor, LBSU and Oklahoma State.

Soccer Voted Ninth In South Region

DENTON, Texas (8/27/12) -- The second edition of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I poll in the South Region was announced Monday, and North Texas received the ninth-best position in the voting.

"It's always nice to be recognized alongside some of the very best teams in the country," said head coach John Hedlund. "The goal for me is that we continue to grow as a team and get better each week and if that happens, everything else will take care of itself."

In a field stacked with SEC teams, North Texas received more votes than Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas and South Carolina.

Missouri is ranked as the top team in the region, followed by Florida and Tennessee. Texas A&M and Mississippi round out the top-five teams, while LSU, Auburn and Georgia finished just above North Texas at the sixth, seventh and eighth spots.

With games against Baylor, Long Beach State, Oklahoma State and TCU remaining in non-conference play, North Texas could make a significant jump in the poll before Sun Belt Conference play begins on Fri., Sept. 21, against Louisiana-Lafayette.

North Texas returns to action on Fri., August 31, at home against Texas Southern
