  1. Saw this on the NT soccer facebook page, girls championship rings are out. It mentions the four diamonds on each side represent the programs eight championships, pretty sweet!
  2. NCAA Tournament Noticed Texas Tech took #1 seed Florida State to double OT but lost 3-2. Baylor, who the NT women tied this year and is now ranked #10 nationally lost to powerhouse North Carolina in PK's (sweet 16). Tells me that our young NT team not only had a great year but is right there of doing something really special next year.
  3. Dont forget, this team is very young and only looses two starters. Next year's team will not only win CUSA but will make the run we all want at the NCAA tournament! Great season girls, you always make us proud! Here's a quote from coach Hedlund on the UNT website: Despite the loss, the Mean Green had a historic season for the program notching 16 wins and its third ever trip to the NCAA's. "I couldn't be prouder of my team right now, we simply had an amazing run," head coach John Hedlund said. "Starting with 16 wins and being ranked in the top 10 of the region all year, especially over several SEC schools. We claimed the regular season championship along with the conference tournament championship and of course, being apart of the NCAA tournament. When the girls receive their rings, I think it will finally kick in on what a magical year we all had and the great memories we shared throughout the season."
  4. Heading down shortly to Houston to see our football team beat up on the cougs. Went back and fourth last night (soccer/volleyball matches) Soccer just seems to always take care of business, beating FAU and staying undefeated 5-0 and in first place in the SBC. Volleyball struggled the whole night, just could not get anything going and eventually got swept. I was really hoping this would be VB's year, winning their first SBC championship before heading into CUSA but with two losses now in league play, i just dont see it happening.
  5. Oklahoma State is preseason Big 12 favorites and ranked 7th in the country, would feel better if this game was at home. Went over to OSU's website, was not aware of the winning record we have against Oklahoma State. I imagine the TCU game will be a brawl considering both schools seem to have a large number of DFW players on their roster, should be a great game. This one i should be able to make, have to love the way soccer schedules!
  6. Not understanding why the NT/ LBSU game at A&M is set for 10am? Was thinking of driving down for the day to see the girls play against one of the top teams in the country but the time screws everything up. I guess, i will just make the Oklahoma State game the following week - love to see us pull the upset over the #3 team in the nation!
  7. Count me in, love it when these two schools play!
  8. Great job girls, nice to see this team doing so well especially with all the youth. I look forward to watching them play next week against nationally ranked Baylor, LBSU and Oklahoma State. Soccer Voted Ninth In South Region DENTON, Texas (8/27/12) -- The second edition of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I poll in the South Region was announced Monday, and North Texas received the ninth-best position in the voting. "It's always nice to be recognized alongside some of the very best teams in the country," said head coach John Hedlund. "The goal for me is that we continue to grow as a team and get better each week and if that happens, everything else will take care of itself." In a field stacked with SEC teams, North Texas received more votes than Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas and South Carolina. Missouri is ranked as the top team in the region, followed by Florida and Tennessee. Texas A&M and Mississippi round out the top-five teams, while LSU, Auburn and Georgia finished just above North Texas at the sixth, seventh and eighth spots. With games against Baylor, Long Beach State, Oklahoma State and TCU remaining in non-conference play, North Texas could make a significant jump in the poll before Sun Belt Conference play begins on Fri., Sept. 21, against Louisiana-Lafayette. North Texas returns to action on Fri., August 31, at home against Texas Southern
  9. I'm in, the girls are fun to watch. Also going to try and make the Baylor, TCU game. Is nationally ranked Oklahoma State and LBSU at home as well? Great schedule!
  10. The OFFICIAL Facebook page of NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN SOCCER. Top 25 Texas A&M squeaks by Mean Green 1-0 "So proud of my 15 girls today battling against A&M’s army and the humidity”. - John Hedlund (Corners- 5-4 NT / SOG- A&M 6-4) Always Proud Ladies
  11. Our womens soccer team always seems to bring that intense energy especially against Big 12 foe Baylor who finished 3rd in the Big 12 last fall and is ranked top 25 in the latest poll with a RPI of #14 nationally. A great crowd was on hand to see NT Michelle Young score late in the game on a breakaway to tie the Baylor Bears 1-1. Can't wait to see how we match up against Texas A&M...Now please bring back the mens program so we can have two very successful soccer programs!!!
  12. I'm pretty sure this is being played as part of a showcase tournament called Dallas International Girls Cup. My daughter is playing in it so once I see a finalized schedule I will post here. Most likely the game will be at the UTD Soccer Stadium or Ross Stewart Soccer Complex. Few of the NT players said the game will be played at the Ross Stewart Complex (Dallas Texans new facility)
  13. Agree, we seem to have a nice pipeline into that club. Sting is ranked the #1 club in Texas for girls soccer and #3 Nationally.
  14. Actually this would have tied the greatest upset in NT history. I remember watching the womens soccer team beat Texas 2-1 in OT years ago. Great job ladies on almost pulling off the upset.
  15. I know a title was on the line against DU but still favor the SMU win. Love beating SMU in anything - Bragging rights.
  16. "AWESOME GAME" www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=204992195
  17. Try going out to a UNT womens soccer game on a Friday night when OU, SMU, Baylor etc. are in town and see if you can find a seat. Went to a game a few years ago against OU, came a little late and had to stand for the whole match....crowd was electrifing and was one of the best games i've seen with our ladies beating the sooners 3-2 in overtime.
  18. A quote from Brett Vito was "spot on" as well regarding the UNT soccer program...he said, Hodges...will be the first scholarship player from a Denton school to play for arguably the most accomplished athletic program at UNT". Well an overall record of 208-82-14 and a home record of 86-8-5 since the year 2000 would have my vote.
  19. Actually the womens soccer team has been playing a back to back game the last 9 years-Sunbelt Conference Tournament. Quarterfinal match is on a Wednesday and the Semi-final is on Thursday.....so this nothing new. Second if you were at the game this is what i saw from the stands: UNT goal called back for offsides....no way was that offsides. UNT 22 shots on goal to opponents 5 UNT missed penalty kick UNT 16 cornerkicks taken to opponents 1 (shows you where the ball was most of the game) UNT missed at least 3 one on one's with the keeper-(on a dry field this probably does not happen) I was fortunate to play on the mens team here and we all had games like this especially in bad conditions.........make no mistake the better team by far lost but in the game of soccer it happens, the ball would simply not go in on this rainy afternoon.
  20. Well how else is JJ going to get his 20 wins a year. Would be nice if he could start scheduling like soccer though- Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, TCU, Ohio State, New Mexico State, etc............bring some of these teams in that soccer scheduled this year and we would pack the Super Pit.
  21. Ohio State just beat two nationally ranked teams on the road this weekend. San Diego 3-0 which was ranked #16 and USC 1-0 which was ranked #8 in the country. OSU will most likely be ranked top 15 in the country when UNT faces them.
  22. Mean Green is 3-1 and starting to find their rhythm......"lookout" Website has UNT defender #14 breaking three bones in her face during the game. To me, where i was sitting it looked like a elbow to the face (cheap shot by the Texas Tech player) should have been a red card. Hopefully she gets back soon, looks like coach Hedlund's top defender. Great Job ladies beating a very good and physical Texas Tech team today..........the website also mentioned Tech beat nationally ranked TCU friday night in Fort Worth, which make this win even sweeter......wonder if will get some national votes now, anyway it was a very exciting and entertaining game. Great crowd too. Go Mean Green, lets knock off another Big 12 team this Friday - undefeated Baylor.
  23. Saw in the Dallas Morning news that TCU's womens soccer team went down to Austin last night and beat Texas 2-1 in a regular season game. Paper has TCU out shooting the horns 14-7 and Texas was ranked #15 in the country Not bad for our lady eagle soccer team only having a few practices before we played TCU and could have easily beat them with all the chances we missed infront the their goal.
