North Texas In Today's New York Times

In today's Times, there is an article about students rejecting increased athletic fees. UNO was specifically discussed. We were portrayed as an example of an institution that supported increased fees. The article is here:

From the article:

"Already facing steep tuition costs, students seem to be growing more reluctant to pay additional fees for everything from athletics to health care to transportation, according to the United States Student Association, which is based in Washington."

This is what drives me nuts. The students are reluctant to pay any type of additional fee. Yet only the athletic ones are heard about. Maybe the students at UNO turned down the athletic fee bill, because other items related to increased tuition were already implemented. And I wish students realized that sports would help pave the way for Transportation, maybe even health care.

I wish every article about increased fees or tuition would be followed with the increased amount of financial aid and scholarship moneys made avaiable in the last ten years. With no stipulations on how financial aid is spent I'm sure it's just another pipeline to "free money" to many students who sqaunder it and then complain about fees and tuition.

Students should be thankful they get to vote on such increases. In the real world, many times citizens of the town/county/state/the US are told that they will be paying for an increase in taxes/fees.
