I never wish bad news on anyone, but I have to think this development can only help Patrick's chances of sticking with the Dolphins...

Docs recommend delay of Williams' NFL reinstatement

By Chris Mortensen

ESPN.com

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams tested positive for marijuana in April and will not be allowed to apply for reinstatement to the NFL until September, sources said.

Williams was suspended last year for violation of the substance abuse policy and was eligible to be reinstated this month, but the league's medical advisors that oversee Williams' personal rehabilitation program recently notified commissioner Roger Goodell of the positive test, sources said.

The doctors also recommended that Williams not be allowed to apply for reinstatement until September, sources said. The commissioner usually adheres to the advice of the medical advisors under the substance abuse policy.

"Falling off the wagon is part of rehab," a source said. "Based on the medical evidence in Ricky's case, the doctors say it's too early to come back. He had the positive test last month. Remember, he's been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder -- that's a real disease and a good percentage of those folks self-medicate with substances like marijuana, often at the moment they are about to have a high level of social interaction."

League spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL would have no comment, as did Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene.

David Cornwell, an attorney who has represented Williams during his substance abuse cases, said he would honor the confidentiality policies in effect with another no comment.

Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.

"Falling off the wagon is part of rehab..."

Ricky was never *ON* the wagon!

What an asshole. It's time for the Dolphins to cut him loose. They should have traded him when there was still speculation about a comeback. Now we couldn't get an obscure punt returner for him. Oh, wait... we don't need one of those!

Dude, have you ever actually listened to Ricky Williams speak? That guy is so socially awkward he puts World of Warcraft kids to shame.

Did he receive a degree fron tU? If so they need to have the creditation revoked. Heck any class where he was required to speak needs to be reviewed.

Everyone with an apparent problem has a disorder. It isn't William's fault he does drugs.... its the disorder.

This is half of our problem in the world today.....it is never anyones fault what they do.....it's always their past, disorder, illness, ect, ect, ect.

Thanks, Dr. Phil. Er, Dr. Travis.

I do my best.

I just think it sad. this is the movement we are chasing. Take away ownership. If you have a problem... it isn't your fault, it is the world and it's oh-so-very-harsh ways. let's place blame on anything and everything but one actually committing the act. It isn't that murderer's fault... he had a rough child with an abusive father that came in and out of his life and a mother that never really loved him. Never mind the fact that so many decent, community enriching people come out of horrible childhoods. A single gust of wind hits two sails.... one goes east as another goes west. How will you set your sails?

Meaning and value are important virtues and always have been. Only now, we get to define what we want to be meaningful. To hell with your reality, i get to create my own. And we aren't allowed to dispute absolute values because that might interfere with another's precious lifestyle... Even if it may be hurting that person and other's around him. Welcome to post-modernity.

Life is hard. It is hard on everybody. I understand that. Regardless, we need to grow some balls! Man up! Suck it up and take responsibility for your actions.
