UNT women grab guard

Most of the talk when it comes to North Texas athletics the last few weeks has been about what the men's basketball team has been up to in recruiting. Tuesday the UNT women got into the act.

Kelli Buckley, a two-time first-team All-North Texas Junior College Athletics Conference selection from Temple College, confirmed that she has committed to UNT and signed a national letter of intent that is in the mail and on its way to Denton.

The 5-6 point guard ranked No. 13 nationally among junior college players in assists last season with an average of 5.8 a game and also averaged 9.9 points an outing. Buckley will give UNT an extra point guard heading into next season. Returning starter Amanda Quattrocchi returns and Colorado transfer Yari Escalera will be eligible after sitting out last season.

The trio should help UNT improve its ball-handling while competing for playing time.

Buckley is a former AAU teammate of UNT's leading scorer last season, shooting guard Sanetra Jackson.

For more on Buckley, see tomorrow's edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle or check our Web site at www.dentonrc.com early tomorrow morning.

I guess you can never have enough PG's?

Who knows what Slinker is thinking these days? She knows she has to win next season, maybe she's gonna have some three/four guard lineup or something. I'm sure that Slinker is quite concerned and will try almost anything to make the tournament, or at least win enough games to inspire another extension.
