Just heard that amazing and horrifying info on Hurricane Frances on the CBS 11 Report this early Friday AM.

In the same CBS 11 News report, Denton's regional FEMA crew is heading out in full force to Florida as well as the Texas Baptist Men (of which Old Timer has been part of in the past) is also on the way to the Sunshine State.

Just because a hurricane is big in size doesn't mean it's gonna be enormously destructive. Frances continues to weaken as it rolls over the Bahamas. They are really the ones getting demolished. I'm sure Florida will get a punch, but not like the poor folks in the Island chain.

It is listed as a Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 125 mph. I would think that, coupled with its immense size, will equal destruction.

This time yesterday it was a Category IV with winds upwards of 145 mph. The last advisory had winds at 115 - and if anything the satellites look like it's weakening even further. Let's also remember that the sustained winds we speak of are concentrated in the center of the storm - the further you get from the eye, the weaker it gets. So the it's not like all 1000 miles of the storm has hurricane force winds.

I'm not saying it won't cause damage BTW, but the Bahamas are getting the full brunt. Honestly, the real damage this will inflict on Florida will be the rain, because Frances is crawling along. It might rain over 20 inches.

The storm is expected to strengthen once it hits the Gulf Stream. This aint over yet.
