  1. The School of Music (I was not part of that) should have a statue garden with Floyd Graham, Roy Orbison, Pat Boone, Don Henley, and possibly some of the jazz musicians that went on to high-profile musical careers.
  2. Nearly impossible to be worse than last year, so the choices were same or better. Even same would be hard to fathom. I like better.
  3. I predicted 5-7, including wins against SMU, B-C, Army, UTSA, UTEP, and then one of the games against MTSU and LaTech. Instead, we lost to SMU (in first game for new coaches and systems), but won against Rice (in OT) and Marshall. Let's get a good turnout at UTSA (the band is going) and come home 5-3 (3-1 C-USA) to face LaTech. I never want to predict that we will lose, but WesternKY appears to be toughest game left on our schedule. 8-4 is within reach, and 7-5 is very much in play. Failing to hit 6-6 would be a surprise at this point.
  4. Tickets ordered week and a half ago, and room is booked for my wife and me.
  5. http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/current_congrove_rankings.html This ranking has UNT moving up from 126th pre-season to 106th. Note Army from 109th all the way up to 66th. SMU going nowhere at 112th. UTSA climbed from 123rd to 101st. LaTech at 74th and WKy at 58th. Looking at our most recent game, UNT score against Marshall (falling from 41st to 91st) was almost the same that Pitt (34th) scored against them a week earlier. Fun to look at but more reasons to actually play the games.
  6. Barr was at radio broadcast at Rudy's last night. Seeing trainer three times a day and expects to be ready with help from the bye week.
  7. Army's quarterback from 2015 left the school after last year. Do not know why. I was surprised they won their first three games, but those were Temple, Rice, and UTEP. If our guys defend the triple option Army offense, then we should win this game. A week later, a win in San Antonio sends the guys home with a 3-1 conference record to face LaTech. We need loud folks in green shirts filling up Apogee to give us a home field advantage against Tech. Best case but very possible scenario, if this plays out we are 6-3 with UTEP still on the schedule. Update: As pointed out elsewhere in this thread, that QB returned after one week. Perhaps his military obligation and options were explained to him.
  8. Too bad on the 18,126. That is 12 thousand seats not used for what turned to be a fun game.
  9. Taking it one game at a time .... and loving it. The conference seems to have more balance than was predicted before the season. WKU may be toughest game left on schedule, but that is five weeks away and a lot can change between now and then. After UTSA crushed USM today, I don't know what to think about either team. Assuming we beat UTSA in three weeks, we come home with a 3-1 C-USA record to face LaTech. That should draw a crowd to Apogee (especially if we play well against Army), and improve our chances against LaTech. Then WKU on the road becomes the tough one; but what will the Mean Green be like with nine games under its belt versus six now? Marshall's shot at a bowl dropped tonight. UNT's shot went up.
  10. I voted three. UTSA, UTEP, plus one among the three remaining home games.
  11. It is not just the Texas OU game that draws the college crowd, but the State Fair itself is a huge draw that day. It seems to always impact our turnout. Inconsistent play by UNT after the first quarter last Saturday will dampen interest among the fair-weather fans. There is nothing to replace the impact of family weekend that pretty much filled the lower section of the wing last week. On the other hand, this could be the easiest (or least challenging) of our three remaining home games, and this is our last 6:00 home start. The forecast calls for great weather. The sun is setting earlier each week and will not be hitting the student section very long. Could be under 20 thousand for this one.

  13. Win at Rice, great weather, parents weekend, no conflicting area games ...... Visitor section may be light and we rarely see many folks in the top half of the wing, so... Should be 28,000 or more, but I will guess 23,000.
  14. Defense probably expected a pass play when Lance went in.
  15. Especially after ND State beat Iowa today...
  16. I agree with this. Please stop the myth that Mean Green was named after Joe Greene. I was at UNT same time as Joe Greene, and still have the yearbooks. Mean Green was a name the defense earned in 1966. Joe was never called that while at UNT.
  17. So where and when do we break through? 2017 at Iowa, 2018 at Arkansas, 2019 at Wisconsin, 2020 at Texas A&M, or 2021 at Missouri Right now, I would say 2018 at Arkansas; but that means great progress by UNT in two years. Both Iowa and Arkansas would be 30 points plus favorites if we played them this year. So let's hope "body bag" games become benchmark games. Note added Saturday - so North Dakota State beats Iowa 23-21 and puts an interesting wrinkle in this.
  18. UNT also dropped out of the ESPN Bottom Ten. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/page/bottom10091316/bottom-10-welcoming-big-12-poor-week-2
  19. Both QB's got plenty of reps against BCU. Fine clearly had a better performance than Morris. Would we be 2-0, or at least have a closer game against SMU, if Fine had started?

  21. While none of us liked being down 17-0 after the first quarter, we have to remember it was the first quarter for new offense, new coaches, new defense, etc. versus SMU having played a year with their current coach and team. While it was not pretty, out-scoring SMU 21-17 after that was somewhat encouraging. AM was obviously rusty after four years riding the bench, but I suspect most of us expected better. While AM was riding the bench, MF was playing in game situations the last few seasons. Between the two, at least we should be OK at quarterback. SMU's Davis was expected to rely less on his own running and rely more on his running back and passing game. While we certainly did not defend against his run, our defense forced him to run much more than I think SMU coaching staff wanted. Let's call that a silver lining in an otherwise difficult day for our new defense. All that said, I think we can win next week. With steady improvement, we could still get to 4 or 5 wins. Great turnout last night, especially by the students. Let's give them reason to keep coming back.
  22. Is that second largest crowd for a UNT game at Apogee, after the opener against Houston five years ago?
