Recruiting Notes From Vito

Keithen English, a three star offensive lineman/defensive tackle from A Maceo Smith, committed to Houston over about a dozen other offers. English is rated 70th on the Morning News' list of the area's top 100 prospects. He was committed to Memphis for a while. When he backed out of that pledge, it seemed like UNT might have a shot

That makes 5 DT's that have committed to UH. If I was McCarney and staff, I would keep an eye out for someone dropping out of this class.

Don't freak out. There are a ton of prospects out there and we don't know how high these guys were on UNT's wish list. It's just interesting to see who UNT is competing against for players.

Exactly. We aren't jostling for players against the likes of SFA, TSU, and the Monroes and Lafayettes of this world. We're going toe to toe with strong mid majors and BCS schools and when it's all done this year, we will slip a few of those on our roster. Just wait until Coach Mac starts winning and we'll get even more. Winning attracts winners. :thumbsu:

And IMO this is probably the best news of whats happening with Coach Bill McCarney this recruiting cycle. Albeit locally (especially with the DaMN) we still don't seem to impress the usual DFW area media critics of ours with our new football palace, but I think most on this board expected it would truly have an impact with the level of players as well as the higher level of the other schools we are now recruiting against.

UNT will still follow what even the national media says about TCU and Boise with their philosophy of "they don't recruit many 4 or 5 start recruits but they are 4 and 5 star before they leave those programs. Some would interrpret that that the coaching staffs at TCU and Boise seem to know which 2 or 3 star HS recruits have true major college potential to move up a few stars once in Fort Worth and Boise.

GMG!
