Staff report

COLLEGE STATION -- A strong second half propelled No. 18 Texas A&M past North Texas, 70-52, on Monday at Reed Arena.

Thanks to a career-high 24 points by Sanetra Jackson, the Mean Green (3-7) trailed by only six at the break, 29-23, but the Aggies (7-2) shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and were able to pull away from UNT.

“We played well at times tonight and I was proud of the way that we came in here against one of the top teams in the Big 12,” UNT head coach Tina Slinker said. “Sanetra was outstanding for us and I think that is going to bode well for us once we get back into conference play.”

Jackson scored 13 of her 24 points in the first half as the Mean Green went back and forth with the Aggies in the first 20 minutes of play.

A layup by Talicia Sanders gave the Mean Green a 17-16 lead with 7:37 left in the first half.

The second half however began with a 23-6 run for Texas A&M led by Takia Starks who scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half.

Amber Jackson scored in double figures for the second straight game with 10 points for the Mean Green. Sanetra Jackson’s previous career-high was 20 points.

UNT is back in action Thursday afternoon with a battle against Northwestern State.
