HOUSTON, Tex. (9/18/05)- In a physical match that saw both teams combine for 40 fouls, the North Texas women’s soccer team battled the Houston Cougars to a 2-2 tie at John O’Quinn Field. The tie extends the Mean Green’s (5-2-2) unbeaten streak to seven straight games.

Houston (4-2-1) scored the first goal of the match when Kristin Bay beat Mean Green goalkeeper Kandice Ellis on a rebound in the 38th minute of the first half.

North Texas was able to tie the match at 1-1 in the 55th minute as sophomore Heather Hutyra scored her eighth goal of the season. Hutyra then gave the Mean Green its first lead of the afternoon at 2-1 with her second goal of the day in the 80th minute on a breakaway.

That lead would be short lived as the Cougars tied the game back up at 2-2 90 seconds later when Bay notched her second goal of the afternoon.

Both teams had two shots in the first overtime and in the second overtime North Texas had the only shot, but neither team could score the game-winner. Both teams had 14 shots on the day

Senior goalkeeper Briana Buchanan, who played the entire second half, made four saves to become school’s all-time leader with 204 career saves.

Junior Kristen Campbell extended her point streak to five games with an assist on Hutyra’s first goal of the day.

North Texas returns to action on Friday, Sept. 23 with a road game at Northwestern State.
