Which would you rather have and why?

I can see a big advantage of the JUCO based off a higher level of competition. It is my guess that most HS commits don't contribute till Jr year

which would mean two years on first or second team.

Who is the bigger downside, a bust at the HS level or the JUCO level? You have 4yrs of one and only 2yrs of the other.

I could see UNT to continue to recruit heavy on the JUCO side.

In a perfect world you only recruit high school kids, but for a program like us with every major and mid major school in the country shopping for recruits in our backyard, JUCO is a solid strategy as the competition for those players is not as intense. I like that we are doing something different with this class and hope it achieves different results.

Coach Cosh was with Bill Snyder at Kansas State, and they have always recruited the JUCO's. Maybe they are taking a page from this book.

To answer your question, I would prefer HS always with JUCO's filling needs as they arise.

If life was perfect, only recruiting high school talent would please me. But jucos provide immediate hope for the coming season. And I need all the hope I can get.

You pretty well answered your own question. That's not to say that busts out of HS can't be encouraged to leave the program at some point.
