  1. DMN BCS 6 8 TCU 7 6 UNT 8 10 SMU 9 7 Rice 10 9 Texas State 11 11 UTSA 12 12 UTEP Clear Dallas News bias for TCU and SMU, with both two slots higher than BCS ranking for same 7 teams.
  2. Confirming some suspicions about the strength of C-USA versus Sun Belt, here are selected conference AVERAGE BCS rankings: 73.50 AAC (Louisville 20, UCF 21) 79.04 MAC (N Illinois 18, Ball State 35) 80.97 Sun Belt (Louisiana Lafayette 37, Monroe 69) 86.80 C-USA By division: 68.50 MAC West 82.32 C-USA West 89.57 MAC East 91.29 C-USA East
  3. North Texas jumped to 51 from 60 last week after beating Rice (52 versus 47 a week ago). That ranking may be tough to improve with remaining schedule of UTEP (120), UTSA (91), and Tulsa (105).
  4. Noticed that photo is credited to a photographer with USA TODAY Sports.
  5. I get to my seat before the band comes out. Very lonely then.
  6. BCS, before this week: 47 Rice 51 ECU 60 UNT 70 MUTS 80 Marshall
  7. 1966-1969 was great four-year run, and they only played ten games unless you were in one of the very few bowls back then.
  8. Since the three tied teams have not all played each other, I assume the Tulane advantage is based on the better Western Division record. Head-to-head is not applicable yet. Agree that Tulane losing at Rice November 30 puts UNT in first if we win out.
  9. 27 unanswered second half points by Florida Atlantic Tulane 17 FAU 34 Final
  10. I say no because: 1. Several hundred will stay out and tailgate throughout the game to catch up with visiting alumni. I have seen this from my seat in the club section. 2. Many students on campus on Thursday night go home on weekends. 3. Not sure what can possibly fill up the wing zone without more local participation.
  11. Too bad we don't have separate attendance records for the fourth quarter. Hardly anybody left early last night.
  12. As my signature shows, I was at NTSU during the MVC years in the back half of the 60's. (I attended every home game plus three road games.) Even though I immediately joined the alumni association as a lifetime member, I do not recall any effort to keep alumni involved in NT sports. The departure from division 1 probably cut most of us off from UNT athletics for good. I only jumped back in when my company relocated from Dallas County to Lewisville and we moved from Richardson to Flower Mound, and we are now in our sixth year as season ticket holders. As I meet more people in the MGC, I know there are still a few from the sixties and fifties; but not nearly enough. With continued success this season and in the future, we may get more of that group back; but most are retired will be hard to bring back. Maintaining contact with current students after they graduate is essential for long-term growth. I get excited when I think of last night's student section staying after graduation and filling seats on the west side.
  13. Rick, the cheerleaders (who also wore new black uniforms for the game) lead the North Texas cheer earlier in the game. I think it was during the fourth quarter that the students started it on their own, and the crowd picked up on it. That one didn't last as long as the game resumed. The student side was really into this game and stayed through the end. Unlike some previous games, there was no significant (if any) decline in attendance during the game.
  14. While eating an ice cream sandwich to sooth my throat after yelling through much of the second half, I agree that was the most incredible goal line stand I have seen in roughly a half century of watching football.
  15. Didn't I read last week that they were not showing USM game there? Now they want to jump on the only game in town!
  16. Also noted on the BCS: #38 Ball State #46 Tulane #47 Rice #51 East Carolina #57 Ohio #79 Middle Tennessee #80 Marshall #100 Tulsa #120 UTEP #121 Southern Mississippi #999 UTSA (one of three, including Penn State)
  17. Anybody know how many tickets Rice sold for this game? Looks like UNT sections on the east side should be full and loud. Costumed kids and families will take up much of the north wing. The key could well be alumni and other season ticket holders on the west side. Anybody here who is active on Facebook should be sharing the Mean Green event posts with their friends. Congressman Burgess had an event in the Apogee club last Saturday, and I talked up the stadium and the upcoming game to several people. Some folks from Argyle decided then to come up Thursday. Sure, this is being promoted by the Athletic Department, but all of us who are part of UNT can and should be doing the same. You have two days left to do your part.
  18. I am with Emmitt on this. A game seven on FOX would take sports fans away from our game on Fox Sports 1.
  19. I take Teasley to FM2499 to Flower Mound every time from UNT. It is especially easy going south, and easy to cut over to Lewisville on 407 or 1171. Going north, the left turn off FM2499 to Teasley / Swisher FM2181 is horribly slow.
  20. Game starts at 6:30 - not 6:00. With national TV timeouts, this could go to 10:00 if no overtime.
