  1. Aside from the band not being able to march around the track as it did at Fouts, one of my biggest disappointments is dropping the fanfare it used to play before the National Anthem.
  2. Yes, plan to dust off the old glove and play.
  3. Replied by email that I am in. Shirt size L
  4. I had forgotten what happened to Greg Langeloh. He was a year behind me at RHS, so I didn't see his senior year, but he had a very impressive season his junior year.
  5. That game against Arkansas was played in Little Rock, and was one of three road games I went to as a student. My seats in the "NTSU" section were low, so I thought the incomplete pass call was due to Shanklin being out of bounds on the far side from where we were sitting. When I learned it was called for trapping the ball on the ground, I did not think that was right, as I was almost at ground level. The pigs got away with a 17-15 win in that one. by the way, I doubt that any film from the press box will be able to disprove that call. It would have to be a ground level view.
  6. One thing Benford reminded us that we lost shooting guards early last year. Now, he thinks he has enough strength at guard that he may play four guards at times. He expects significant improvement at guarding against threes. Personally, I expect more of a TEAM attitude with TM gone.
  7. As I heard that tonight, I was reminded that UNT (NTSU) never bothered to promote athletics to alumni back in those days. I joined the alumni association upon graduation, so they knew where to reach me. It just didn't happen. That was back in the 70's. Interesting, but sad, that players in the 70's were also ignored after they left.
  8. I do - probably the only option I have in Flower Mound.
  9. Joe, it was really very neat before the shoppers got there.
  10. That was just the garage sale!
  11. Not the right font style or colors, so must be temporary for spring game.
  12. I sent email to Dan Johnston early in the season. Response expressed confidence in Benford.
  13. My grades would have been better if I hadn't gone to so many MVC basketball games in the last half of the 60's.
  14. ESPN reported Saturday that WKU on Monday will announce move to CUSA effective 2014. Any source or confirmation on Bowling Green?
  15. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/9115210/western-kentucky-hilltoppers-moving-conference-usa-source-says
  16. Welcome! I am relatively new to the blog myself, but not new to UNT sports. There are already a couple of strings that start with observations of the scrimmage.
  17. The post says a non-conference HOME game against Tulsa in 2014. Add SMU and four conference games. That makes six.
  18. As large as UNT is, there are a lot of area alumni who are not supporting UNT athletics. That speaks to the "unlocked potential" or the "sleeping giant" labels that have been mentioned in other posts. Obviously, the lack of success has not helped; but alumni response was weak even in winning eras. Whether it is justified or not, the lack of media coverage is probably a major reason more alumni are not involved. The reach of the DRC is limited. The Dallas Morning News is all about SMU, UT and the Big XII, TAMU and the SEC, and TCU. I don't think the Star-Telegram is much different. Even our alumni base in Denton County (outside DRC coverage area) sees little UNT coverage. The move to C-USA and adding several Texas opponents to the schedule gives UNT a huge opportunity to get the attention of more area alumni. Establishing a winning habit against those teams is essential. Even bigger opportunities, perhaps, are the upcoming home and away games with SMU. Those games will get significant media coverage. While we certainly want to beat SMU, and I really want UNT to beat SMU badly, even being competitive in that series should increase our exposure. So, while I wish the Florida schools had stayed put, I really like the move to C-USA. I like what I hear about the football team, and am really looking forward to the upcoming season. The opportunity is there for UNT to get alumni attention and grow the fan base. GMG!
  19. I noticed that this and every other source except UNT shows Rice game in 2013 on November 2 - not October 31.
  20. From the C-USA website on February 28..... Conference USA has announced date changes to three football games this fall. All three date changes are to accommodate national television. Game times and networks will be announced at a later date. The first game is a non-conference contest between Iowa State and Tulsa, a rematch of last season's AutoZone Liberty Bowl won by the Golden Hurricane, 31-17. The 2013 game will now be played Thursday, September 26, in Tulsa. The initial conference meeting between Marshall and Middle Tennessee has also changed dates. The Thundering Herd and Blue Raiders will now face each other on Thursday, October 24 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The late season meeting between Marshall and Tulsa has been moved up two days and will now be played Thursday, November 14, in Tulsa. One other date change that has been announced involving a Conference USA team is Florida Atlantic's season opener at Miami (Fla.). That contest will now be played Friday, August 30, in Miami Gardens, Fla. A game time and any television details have not yet been announced. Additional date changes to accommodate television do remain a possibility, and details of such games will be announced as soon as possible. C-USA's 17th football season will begin on Thursday, August 29. The league's ninth annual football championship game is scheduled for Saturday, December 7.
  21. J. C. Matthews (1952-1968), capacity crowds for exciting MVC basketball, solid track and field success, Abner Haynes and Joe Greene eras for football.
  22. I understand that you want to take the coach out of the equation so we can focus on player needs. That said, I suspect Benford inherited some discipline issues; and injuries reduced depth enough that working around discipline issues seriously impacted his ability to manage those issues. I don't know the players, but benching players so frequently is the smoke that screams fire. A really good motivating coach probably could have managed that better than what we experienced this past season. It is hard to get past the coaching and focus on player needs when we don't know if we can count on some of the current players who may continue to have conflicts with the coach. It is one thing to work around injuries, but going into a "win or go home" game without Alzee Williams shows how little we can assume about the current roster. How many key players were benched at one time or another this season? That aside, good shooters and perimeter defense are the biggest needs. If Mitchell leaves, and I hope he doesn't, then that is a lot more talent that needs to be replaced. Even with Mitchell, it would be nice to have a player who can dominate under the basket offensively and defensively so that Tony can be more versatile as forward.
  23. Who carries all-weather jackets anymore. Even the store at Apogee doesn't have much there. Also, is Mean Green Club apparel still available anywhere?
