  1. "Worst New Orleans Bowl Ever: North Texas 24, Cincinnati 19 in 2002. Just 19,024 fans showed up in the 76,000-seat Superdome to see the 7-5 Mean Green take a 24-7 lead on the 7-6 Bearcats, and hang on." http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--dashing-through-the-college-football-bowl-season-154321728.html other quotes from the article: "Now the end is in sight, so we're willing to embrace the mangy likes of the Heart of Dallas Bowl" "Heart of Dallas Bowl (28): North Texas vs. UNLV, Jan. 1. Watchability (scale of 1-5): 1. Don't waste your remote batteries. If the Rose Bowl is the Granddaddy of Them All, this is the unwanted orphan of New Year's Day bowls." "Dash Pick: North Texas 32, UNLV 21. Mean Green is 3-3 against 2013 bowl teams. Rebels are 1-4. North Texas defense is the best unit in the game, and if quarterback Derek Thompson doesn't turn the ball over UNT should win comfortably."
  2. almost tip-off. have the radio on here at work. Hopefully, the DISD magic can get the team a win. According to the release, North Texas is 5-0 on these afternoon games...PLUS we are 3-1 in the Southland this year. One last win to close the year?
  3. Pretty cool video of Rice officially receiving their invite to the Liberty Bowl: P.S. that's gonna be us next year getting an invite in the locker room http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_j5soT9Vlg8 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/_j5soT9Vlg8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  4. most folks on this board are "baseball first" people However, I agree with you. We should finish up the cash cow, football, first. An indoor facility should be high on RV's to-do list
  5. are you saying that you think he has no shot at the League?? I think he'll make some team's 53-man roster, or at very least, their reserve squad
  6. calling our ticket office still gives the Aspire group a cut. just fyi. calling was outsourced this past summer. my "ticket rep" is former Mean Green, Coleman Feeley I suppose if you're wanting to be 100% Mean Green you actually have to physically drive to the ticket office
  7. I successfully requested 28. It looked like it could scroll all the way to 99?
  8. I talked to a lady in the ticket office this past week, and she told me that the plan was to send out tickets no later than the 16th. If you want your seats together, I would suggest purchasing this week. My best guess, based on previous events, is that you can probably still purchase the 16th-20th, but a second batch will be assigned and sent that week, ending on the 20th. So, get on the site and buy your tickets now for your opportunity to be assigned the very best tickets. I'm guessing any tickets bought after the 20th will automatically be WillCall pick-ups.
  9. if it's UNLV, then both of us will be breaking long bowl droughts on January 1. Teams #3-#6 will all be going bowling: UNLV, Washington State, Tulane, North Texas Longest Bowl Droughts
  10. replace us with Australia and Group B is looking pretty rough, too. Like the SI numbers showed, we've got a decent chance to advance. It IS a very difficult draw, but not impossible. we can beat/draw Ghana, Portugal, and the round of 16 match-up should be a W for us
  11. I bet our boys are wishing we had an indoor facility right about now..
  12. Notre Dame. paging flyonthewall to confirm
  13. Remember, I've always been in the North Texas vs B1G (or ACC replacement) camp, but... I've also heard from a well-connected source that the Armed Forces is seriously considering a trade for North Texas. There is apparently an option for a CUSA/MWC switch (since it's normally alternating when AF isn't the pick). If the switch occurs, MWC could possibly get Military Bowl instead. This could be triggered if the SEC exercises their option to forego the CUSA champion in the Liberty Bowl a la Southern Miss 2011. If this occurs, Armed Forces is extremely interested in the Mean Green. As part of that chain reaction, Conference USA or Mountain West might get BBVA
  14. As you noted, they had Hawaii on their schedule. The "Hawaii exemption" allows any team traveling to the island to schedule an additional 13th game to make up for the costs, etc for the lengthy travel. Most schools either schedule an additional home game for revenue or schedule a "bodybag" game for a guaranteed paycheck. Some schools, however, do not play a 13th game. If you play 13, then you must win 7 because bowl eligibility requires your team to be .500 (barring waivers). or better yes
  15. Totally agree with this whole paragraph. I especially think we should go after Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Washington State. These schools have proven in the past that they will schedule home-and-home deals with non-big5 schools. Hugh Freeze, Dan Mullen, Mike Riley, and Mike Leach all love to recruit down here in Texas as well. Our AD should make this happen
  16. I agree with the sentiment of the post, but McNulty was 28-51 in 2011. That makes him 33-57 in his career, so we have a total of 63 thrown passes in a college game and 38 completions...not much better, but a little
  17. already posted in another thread, but will re-post here: http://espn.go.com/e...2-08-13-5:00-PM Mark your calendars. Bowl bids won't be publicly announced until ESPN's Bowl Selection Show, which will air next Sunday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. CST, which is immediately following the BCS Selection Show on ESPN. Maybe we can have a watch party or something. I post this because we have a lot of people fretting about the bowl games and when we'll hear where we're going. It appears we will know for certain on Sunday night, if not earlier. Mark your calendars, and have your TV on.

  19. http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/sportslink/2013/nov/30/wsu-football-bowl-situation-update/ Heart of Dallas Bowl, Dallas, T.X., Jan. 1, 9 a.m., ESPNU With Auburn knocking off No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, the Big Ten could send Ohio State to the BCS championship game and Michigan State to the Rose Bowl. If that were to happen, the Heart of Dallas bowl would need to find an at-large team to fill its spot. The Big Ten already has an extra slot available since Penn State is ineligible for postseason play due to NCAA sanctions. Why WSU will be invited: Bringing coach Mike Leach back to the state of Texas is attractive to the administrators of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Apart from increased TV interest, WSU athletic director Bill Moos says he expects as many as 2,000 Texas Tech fans to travel to a bowl in or near Texas to support their former coach. Why WSU will not be invited: The Heart of Dallas will have plenty of choices in a year with so many bowl eligible teams. Seven-win teams like Maryland and Georgia Tech, or even Oregon State could be attractive to the bowl directors.
  20. http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls/projections Mark Schlabach: Syracuse vs. North Texas - HOD Brad Edwards: Oregon State vs. North Texas - HOD http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions Jerry Palm: Maryland vs. North Texas - Military Since ESPN owns the HOD Bowl, I tend to think they know what's going on a little bit better than the others
  21. I expect Floyd Casey Stadium to be pretty raucous next Saturday in that game. Last game for the Bears before they move to their new palace on the Brazos. They're even adding new seats for this finale http://www.wacotrib.com/sports/baylor/football/pulling-apart-the-case/article_4afc2290-4b19-5013-b9b4-e7ec9beb1012.html
  22. Even if UCF loses next week and Louisville wins...Louisville will NOT pass UCF in the standings. They would be tied and UCF would win the AAC by virtue of their head-to-head victory. it will not be us getting left behind. Heart of Dallas will announce us within a week.
