  1. you wasted your one post on that? You must be occupied elsewhere with all the big headlines in today's news. I guess I should be grateful that it wasn't your usual, extended diatribe
  2. At this point, about half your cable bill is dedicated to paying for live sports. ESPN commands the highest national subscriber fee, but regional sports networks that broadcast regular-season NBA and Major League Baseball games also command huge fees. Those who don't care about sports are beginning to wake up to the fact that they don't need to pay so much for events they have no intention of watching. Now, they can cut the cord and entertain themselves by streaming shows through Netflix, Amazon, Hulu Plus or broadcast network websites or apps for a fraction of the price. When enough sports atheists figure this out, the cable/satellite distribution model will have a problem. Because as much as sports fans love their sports, they don't love them enough to double what they're paying now. 3. stinks that the big 5 are pulling out of games vs the go5...but, Yay for getting another bowl, especially one in a neigboring state http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/jeremy-fowler/22514306/pac-12-likely-leaving-new-mexico-bowl
  4. *yawn* Both showed up, checking in at #79 Middle Tenn #82 Southern Miss Four left...anyone care to guess where they are? Tulsa, LaTech, Marshall, ECU for those who lost count
  5. I think Idaho's other sports will be going to the Big Sky, but NMSU's will be staying in the WAC. Looking at the future WAC lineup, the Aggies may be guaranteeing themselves basketball/baseball postseason's for awhile
  6. the 2013 C-USA lineup has 8 schools between #91-#119, which is not really much separation, and 6 schools between 109 and 119. #91. UAB #94. Rice #109. Tulane #111. FAU #112. UTEP #113. North Texas #118. FIU #119. UTSA Where do you see the other six checking in at? I gotta think MUTS and Southern Miss will be showing up soon. You gotta think there are, minimum, 4 wins in that bunch on our schedule. Couple those with Idaho and now we only need 1 win in the other 7 games for bowl eligibility. Six wins should be our bare minimum expectation in 2013.
  7. http://swchelmets.tripod.com/rice.html Does anyone know if we have something like this out there?
  8. Stanford's 19th consecutive Director's Cup. The only other winner was North Carolina in the inaugural year of the award (1994). Good guess on UCLA, as they have finished in the top 5 15 or 16 times. While Stanford racks up a lot of points in several smaller sports (men's volleyball, water polo, synchronized swimming), I continue to applaud them for sponsoring so many different sports for their student-athletes to compete in. We did claim 2nd in the Bubas Cup behind MUTS http://www.sunbeltsports.org/ABOUTTHESUNBELT/TheBubasCup.aspx We failed to score points in 2012-2013's Capital One Cup http://www.capitalonecup.com/ We had a good year with 5 conference titles (by my count: soccer-regular season and tournament; men's golf; tennis; women's outdoor track & field)... but we want more, and we should strive for more GMG
  9. for those wanting a new regime, you should wish nothing but extreme success on our current AD. A powerhouse UNT is something for every alum to be proud of; AND an extremely successful department would also increase the number of suitors from bigger budget schools looking to lure our AD away. Win-win. And this is, in no way, me wishing to see RV go. It's a suggestion for those who would look forward to his exit
  10. will probably be more than 8 times. Every bowl game is televised. Also, I imagine the Georgia game will be on TV as well, and usually TXA picks up a game somewhere. TV appearances might hit double digits in 2013
  11. what happened to Troy and Elizabeth?
  12. Imagine having an indoor facility, for the Denton camps, on those hot summer days. Would be a solid selling point. Recruits love splashy facilities
  13. SEASON BREAKDOWN & PREDICTION — In a nutshell: Rice needs to prove itself in two areas before being taken seriously as a challenger to Tulsa, East Carolina, Marshall and Louisiana Tech in Conference USA. The first is in road games: Rice has won four regular-season games away from home over the last three years, with three coming in 2012 against Kansas (1-11), Tulane (2-10) and UTEP (3-9). This year's schedule sends the Owls away from home against Texas A&M, Houston, Tulsa, UTSA, New Mexico State, North Texas and UAB – giving this team only five true home games. Even if the Owls are a stronger team than UTSA, NMSU and UAB, is it safe to predict anything better than 3-4 in this season's road games? In my mind, considering the program's historically weak play on the road, whether Rice makes another postseason run hinges on whether it can defeat Kansas and Louisiana Tech at home. The second area: Rice needs to beat good teams. It'll be hard to view the Owls as anything but a lucky beneficiary of an easy schedule should this team reach six wins against Florida Atlantic, UTSA, New Mexico State, UTEP, North Texas and Tulane. Would that be a successful season? Yes, in many respects – because a bowl trip is a bowl trip, and Rice will take those where, when and however they come. But would that resume make Rice a top-75 team in the FBS? Probably not. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/06/10/rice-college-football-countdown-2013-preview/2407811/ 2013 TEAM OVERVIEW — Conference: Conference USA, West — Location: Houston — Nickname: Owls — Returning starters: 17 (7 offense, 10 defense) — Last year's ranking: No. 111 — 2012 record: 7-6 (4-4) — Last year's re-ranking: No. 70 — 2013 schedule: Aug. 31 at Texas A&M Sept. 14 Kansas Sept. 21 Houston (at Reliant Stadium) Sept. 28 Florida Atlantic Oct. 5 at Tulsa Oct. 12 at UTSA Oct. 19 at New Mexico State Oct. 26 UTEP Oct. 31 at North Texas Nov. 16 Louisiana Tech Nov. 21 at UAB Nov. 30 Tulane
  14. what a great race! He ran really well, looked very smooth. I posted over on the football board since it gets better traffic
  15. ran a scintillating 49.32 (school record) to grab 3rd place at the NCAA's. It was live on ESPNU just moments ago. Pretty cool to see the North Texas getting some good air time GO Mean Green Congrats Steven and Coach Sheffield
  16. he's in 4th going into the finals at the NCAA championships http://www.flashresults.com/2013_Meets/outdoor/06-05-NCAA/live/130605P010.htm he ran a school record 49.82 in the semi's to clinch a berth in the finals. White was also named an all-American...pretty freakin cool! Finals are Friday at 4:40PM http://www.flashresults.com/2013_Meets/outdoor/06-05-NCAA/live/evtindex_friday.htm
  17. mg_track, i've heard the same thing from a reliable source baseball's addition will most likely spell the end of a funded men's track program. I've been on the record, on this board, to be against cutting of track, etc to fund baseball. I just don't see how it is economically feasible to be adding a sport when you have to potentially cut other sports. This appears to be evidence that we are not in a position to support baseball (and/or track) at the level they should be supported. It would be a real shame to see track go away. I think men's track is only behind men's golf (and possibly football) in the # of conference titles claimed by the Mean Green. While this is slightly off topic, I continue to support building an indoor football facility before starting a baseball program. If we're serious about being serious then we had better start acting like a big time college football program. Indoor facilities are a necessity in today's recruiting game
  18. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/05/30/texas-state-bobcats-college-football-countdown-2013-preview/2370699/ — Dream season: The Bobcats go 2-2 in September, start 3-1 in the Sun Belt and hold on in November to reach a bowl game. — Nightmare season: The three wins come against Prairie View A&M, Georgia State and South Alabama. IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING — Where Texas State fans hang out: I think the best option is Bobcat Fans, which houses a very active message board. — Returning starters: 13 (6 offense, 7 defense) — 2012 record: 4-8 (2-4) — 2013 schedule: Aug. 31 at Southern Mississippi Sept. 7 Prairie View A&M Sept. 21 at Texas Tech Sept. 28 Wyoming Oct. 5 at Louisiana-Lafayette Oct. 12 Louisiana-Monroe Oct. 19 Georgia State Oct. 26 South Alabama Nov. 2 at Idaho Nov. 16 at Arkansas State Nov. 23 Western Kentucky Nov. 29 at Troy
  19. FW Star-Telegram report card for TCU's first year in the Big 12:
  20. the cooger queen is busy getting her mommy to compile a clever retort. she should be here in 3...2...1...
  21. until we officially leave the Belt for CUSA. Which team will win our first conference title?
  22. his standings table and explanation records don't match up, but Tepper takes a walk down memory lane over two decades later. Would've been nice if he had talked about UTEP and UNT also, maybe even UTSA and Texas State. I mean if it's all hypothetical, maybe we wouldve finally gotten into the SWC.. http://www.texasfootball.com/college-news/view/180387
