  1. seeing that familiar yellow envelope is even better than Christmas
  2. the thread says that, but the poster was incorrect...Baylor is not going to San Antonio to play @ Incarnate Word (they are going to SA to play utsa in 2018, though). The Baylor contract with IW is for a single home game in 2019. I saw similar misinformation in another thread. Texas A&M is not traveling to Lafayette. They recently agreed to pay the Ragin Cajuns to come to College Station in 2017 for a "bodybag game."
  3. from rws69 in the season ticket thread: the North Texas allotment is officially in section 32. Apparently we have eighty rows in that section...I'm guessing that's the whole section. Just an update for those who are wanting to make the trip down to the capital and want to sit in or near the Mean Green section. Can't wait!! GMG
  4. for those who missed it: and http://texsasports.com/
  5. I know most people get excited when they see that we're "only 14 behind last year's total with a month to go". But I see that number and think "wow, we should have matched last year's number at the May 31st renewal deadline." The sobering fact is that some people have not renewed. Things I want to know is what is our current renewal percentage, because that lets me know how many new buyers the AD has been able to bring in for this upcoming season. I have no doubt we'll surpass last season's season ticket numbers. It would be energizing to see our department announce a season-ticket holder goal like #hit8k and keep us updated, but that will never happen. What is being done to engage the new fan/buyer? I would make the argument that GMG.com does a much better job of winning new fans to the cause than our AD ever has.
  6. I love your enthusiasm and sentiment, but grant.unt has already been a season ticket holder and MGC member for the past few years. what we need is NEW season season ticket holders. I +1'd him for securing his 2014 tix/membership. but I don't think we should be getting this excited when someone renews (esp. after last season). Hopefully 100% of holders from 2013 renew for 2014, that's what on-the-field performance does...it secures renewals. It's the AD's, marketing, and Aspire's job to bring in new season ticket holders - that's what I reserve my applause for.
  7. it's refreshing to actually "hear" a number, finally. definitely disappointing. But from what I've been told in the past, we typically have a significant segment of our fans who wait closer 'til the season starts before securing their season tickets. Maybe Eddie can update us on whether or not the sales team has targeted and sold at least 15 tickets since this tweet..
  8. looking forward to hearing these opponents. I applaud AD's who take scheduling seriously. this guy gets it
  9. cute erector set stadium, queen.
  10. the best date and opponent would appear to be HoD my somewhat arbitrary ranking if I were in charge of choosing (I'm not): Heart of Dallas Bahamas New Mexico Hawaii Boca Raton
  11. - At this week’s Media Day, FIU fifth-year senior center, Donald Senat, and North Texas senior linebacker, Derek Akunne, each correctly named all the current football-playing Conference USA schools. They were the only two who successfully accomplished this - When Houston left C-USA after 2012, it also left Rice’s schedule. Jordan Taylor and Malcolm Hill will miss playing the school 10 to 15 minutes away (and were shocked FIU and the University of Miami don’t play). They’d like to build something with North Texas, which handed 2013 C-USA champion Rice its only conference loss last year, but Taylor said, “I don’t know if they’d consider us a rival.” - “Let’s get some rivalries going,” North Texas coach Dan McCarney said. “If we need to get some [darn] trophies to play for, let’s get some trophies to play for. I’ll help, I’ll be on the committee for that. I used to take the Cy Hawk Trophy with me into the bathroom when we won that thing at Iowa State [over Iowa]." My thoughts: I'd like to consider Rice a rival. They're on the top of my list for budding rivalries. Proud of Derek for getting it right and knowing the competition. Seems like Mac's on board for getting some rivalry games and *giggle* [darn] trophies. Let's make it happen! 12. you must have the wrong guy. Bevo's a steer...a nutless bovine. I'm sure his defenders in Austin will claim profiling
  13. was planning on claiming Tillman Johnson, but he was claimed early... deciding between James Jones and Zac Whitfield - I'm rolling with #13 James Jones
  14. speaking of Vito, I don't think he's an MGC member...at least his name isn't in my program as one. We need to get him on board
  15. if it's like most preseason college coaches polls, then you are barred from voting for your own team
  16. Since yesterday (or Monday) was the last day to buy from the North Texas official allotment, I think... and this thread was recently bumped... it looks like prices on the secondary market have been coming down since late-April, when this thread was started. Tickets can be had for as low as $38, in the end zone nose bleeds, to the $60s-80s in section 31, which I've been guessing section 32 for the North Texas section (can anyone confirm this?) If you want to sit on the visitor's sideline, but think $80/ticket is still a bit pricey, there are some to be found in the $60s on the second deck of the visitor's side (which might actually be a slightly better view than section 32). StubHub and TicketCity offer electronic tickets, so they'll be in hand as soon as you purchase. I'm looking forward to having a big pool of green there in Austin on Aug. 30, so I don't care how you get there - just get there GMG http://www.ticketcity.com/austin-tickets/north-texas-mean-green-at-texas-longhorns-aug-30-2014-1123667.html http://www.stubhub.com/university-of-texas-football-tickets/texas-vs-north-texas-8-30-2014-4456332/ http://www.vividseats.com/ncaaf/texas-longhorns-tickets/texas-vs-north-texas-8-30-1514228.html http://www.ticketnetwork.com/tix/texas-longhorns-vs-north-texas-mean-green-football-08-30-2014-tickets-2227433.aspx
  17. there is no "Texas State @ Nac". Stephen F. Austin is, and has been, an independent public university. The schools in the Texas State system are Sam Houston, Lamar, Sul Ross, and Texas State in San Marcos. Also, your whole diatribe is flawed because the 83rd Texas Legislature passed a bill saying that the school in San Marcos was official Texas State...no San Marcos. This was signed by Governor Rick Perry and went into effect Sept. 1, 2013. I have no tie to the school formerly dubbed Southwest Texas State, but your willful ignorance is embarrassing
  18. Here's a look at how the schools have fared since 1996: 1. Texas 170-60, .739 2. TCU 150-71, .679 3. Texas Tech 140-85, .622 4. Texas A&M 133-92, .591 5. Houston 111-109, .505 6. Rice 95-118, .446 7. SMU 81-133, .379 8. Baylor 79-133, .373 9. UTEP 78-136, .364 10. North Texas 77-136, .362 That doesn't factor in Texas San-Antonio and Texas State, which joined the FBS in 2012.
  19. conference mate, Marshall, joins the list of those with an indoor practice facility. Smart move making it available to all sports. Cost: $14 million, but that also included a full indoor track and a permanent Hall of Fame http://www.herald-dispatch.com/x720297576/University-applies-finishing-touches
  20. 2013-14 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division I Final Standings NOTE: 20 total teams can be scored for the final standings (10 M, 10 W sports) http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/2013-14/misc_non_event/june26stand.pdf North Texas finished in a tie at #236 with Marshall, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and Bucknell. That put us in a tie for 11th in C-USA with the Thundering Herd of Marshall. Right now we're somewhat handicapped with only 5 men's and 9 women's programs, but I'd love to see us consistently competing for a top 75 spot in this.
  21. does anyone know if the department has released the 2014 North Texas football schedule poster? also, magnets?
  22. if athletes are allowed to be paid for the use of their name, image and likeness. To keep their athletic programs afloat, Banowsky said that many schools within his own conference have been forced to subsidize, in some cases through student fees. "We heard about the possibility of some institutions having to drop football," Remy said. "That's a realistic possibility, if not for the mere fact that they can't keep up in an environment, or because their values don't align with the notion that they would pay a student athlete for the name, image and likeness." http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2014/06/23/ed-obannan-antitrust-case-vs-ncaa-day-11/11266275/
