  1. The angel on my left shoulder says the NAACP knows there is nothing to this that falls in their territory and they will counsel the young men to cool it. The devil on my right shoulder says the NAACP is picking their time to create the biggest stink possible, maybe a demonstration this weekend at Fouts.
  2. http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online...es/DD/xed1.html I was thinking about what I posted previously. Does our band have this music? I remember the chilling sound from "Davy Crockett" but that has been a LONG time ago.
  3. I concur, Plumm, and had planned to do that myself. Let's be VERY hospitable. I plan to make any of their fans I meet feel welcome, with a caveat...at kickoff we will sound the deguello!
  4. GREAT!!! They deserve it. Now, let's hope they keep partying and thinking about that fabulous victory over Notre Dame right on through tomorrow. If they're not thinking about UNT, that's a GOOD thing!
  5. Dear Coach Dodge, I fully support YOU, your coaching staff, the methods and practices you employ in administering your program, and the guidance you provide our young men for football and the life after football. I want to thank you for the tremendous efforts you have made to date to get this program headed in the right direction. Your efforts are sincerely admired and appreciated. DAMN THE TORPEDOES! FULL SPEED AHEAD!! Tom Crothers Richardson, Texas MBA, UNT '89
  6. I had the same thoughts...like a scam. The scholarship dollars hurt us but the three scholarships tied up is like getting sanctioned by the NCAA and losing scholarships to offer, which is worse. I do not know the rules on that, but I suspect we would effectively be short three scholarship players. In the spirit of the Navy game next week, those three guys should be introduced to a little tradition known as a "blanket party".
  7. My bold prediction is 28,500. Great show, perfect weather...why not? I'm planning on getting there extra early and enjoying all of the excitement; the atmosphere should be electric!
  8. Yeah, he doesn't want them to wear hats. They come off as two real bozos, but look at the damage they have done with their irresponsible conduct. It was mentioned by one of them (I listened while doing something else and didn't watch) that it was mentioned that UNT would find a home for them if they didn't like the system we have.
  9. I defer to you, greenminer, since you recorded the game and I did not. My memory was that Navy indeed runs the version of the triple option as described at the beginning of Davie's article and uses the option pass effectively (because they don't do it that often). I struggled to remember their line splits and running back deployment. My overwhelming memory is that they execute the offense perfectly and they are fast as hell. We get another shot to scope them out Saturday afternoon on TV against ND. I would love to see them win. I will print off Davie's article and compare it to their alignments.
  10. From what I remember of the Pitt game with Navy, Navy runs the Triple Option as described by Davie and they also were effective with the Option Pass. Their fullback is a LOAD and the quarterback is a helluva good runner. They appear to be small (except the fullback) but fast...all of them. I plan to watch them Saturday afternoon against Notre Dame. After our Mean Green, I root for ND...but in my heart I would like to see Navy win and break their losing streak to ND (40+ games). That Bob Davie discussion is very interesting and it is worth some study.

    Wow

This particular game might yield a pretty impressive photo, what with a large contingent of Midshipmen in attendance. Even with a 90% turnout, old lady Fouts will look WONDERFUL. One thing is for certain...we damned sure better make NOISE because THEY WILL!!
  12. Good God, friends! The only RACE we're talking about here is the Human Race. The real issue is whether or not a coach or coaches has/have the right to establish rules by which his team will operate and abide. Rules of conduct, appropriate language, sportsmanship, other expectations. My CEO expects me to not announce to customers and other stakeholders that I am hood or they are MFers. I feel certain that if he had to intervene after such an act on my part, my ass would be on the street. It is a matter of conforming to accepted and clearly defined standards of conduct stated in the employee handbook...or not.
  13. Two more scholarships for talented young athletes with the right attitudes to rebuild this program...and counting! Dickey let the inmates run the asylum and Dodge won't!
  14. This is a blessing in disguise. Those 7,000 Navy backers are going to rock the house and shame all those "less than rowdy" UNT fans into making some noise in self-defense. I am looking forward to the home crowd seeing what the noise level is like on the road.
  15. Thank you, Coach Archie, and thank you, Flyer for two thought-provoking posts.
  16. This appears to me to be just another manifestation of the "attitude" problem TD must have inherited and must account for some of the variance in team performance. This is Halloween week and Racism must be coming to the party as a zombie! No matter how many years, no matter how many people of good will, no matter how much education has gone before...some people think they have to play the race card at the drop of a hat. It is so frustrating that it just won't die. This makes me want to vomit!
  17. If RS has a conflict, that would be a shame. I like the idea of a big-time coin tosser and WE could use a lift in OUR HOUSE. Please invite MEAN JOE GREENE to do the honors!!
  18. I really don't HATE any of our conference rivals, and the fans I've met have been pretty cordial. I DISLIKE FAU but that's probably because we can't seem to beat them and they are arrogant. I have enjoyed our historical dominance over the MUTS but now they are becoming competitive and have the potential to become our best rival since NMSU. NO PROBLEM with their fans. I also DISLIKE ASU and ULM, and particularly ASU's fans. Those two teams, probably not coincidently, seem to have held their own with us over the last few years. The jury is out on Troy; they get an incomplete from me based on my few personal experiences. Right now, I gotta give them their props. ULaLa - what's not to like? Others = no opinion today.
  19. The Mean Green are pissed, Raiders. You are scheduled into Fouts on the wrong weekend! We are the wounded tiger and this is our house and our Homecoming weekend. BEND OVER!! UNT 45 MUTS 28 Mark it down!
  20. The skills of Mahan and others are tested and known. The playing time answer must be intangible, i.e., chemistry within the unit, attitude, relationship with position coaches, whatever. The analysis is fascinating...sincerely. In the end, though, we just need to get behind the guys the coaches put on the field; they are playing for good reason, known or unknown to us. IMHO.
  21. I'm with KRAM. I've not posted much lately, particularly after the Troy beating; that was depressing. But this is a GAME, people. Played by young men, the vast majority of whom will get their educations and go on to be productive members of our economy and society outside of the SPORT of football. Let's ease up on the pressure being placed on them. They are all winners, just not in the stats. My spirits rise and fall with their play but that is my individual right to care or not care that much...they have no responsibility for my sanity. Their only responsibility, IMHO, is to give their best effort on game day. None of them are perfect and we should not expect perfection. I was there when they were losing, I was there when they were winning, and I'm still here through another round of tough times. I support them and I ain't goin' nowhere. Well, maybe I will go to the refrigerator and drink a beer to them and Johnny Cash!
  22. This week is Homecoming, which is historically the biggest crowd of the year outside of an SMU, Baylor or Navy (this year). People come to Denton early. Based on what I've seen in the Orange lot this year (I'm in Blue this year) you should move your normal departure time to an hour earlier. ENJOY!
  23. Is this a Deuce Bigalow reference, as in "You got to sell your mangina"?
  24. AMF. Please don't let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you.
