  1. Rice would be fine, but many of us have friends and family in Houston or places you pass near going there and back. I had planned a full weekend with side trips in my own vehicle. Having said that, if a Rice trip is organized, I would participate. Is a K-State trip feasible? That is the trip I would like to make in group travel with Mean Green fanatics. Probably won't crank up the car and drive to that one.
  2. IMO, Coach Slinker lasted 19 years because she is a decent person who runs a clean program. Her teams had moments and some really good players over the years. She just never seemed to be able to kick it up a notch. She deserves our thanks for her service. I wish her well in her next coaching position.
  3. Hope we don't see the girls take the floor in black uniforms!
  4. Look at the old fart's resume...he couldn't hold a job!
  5. They may come into the Pit Nuttless, but they may still have some aggressiveness. We can't afford to drop the ball.
  6. Is this position of "Director of High School Relations" something new? If so, is it aimed at blunting some of the recruiting effectiveness demonstrated by TD?
  7. Just my personal opinion. I would like to see Riley protected this season, i.e., redshirted while he rehabs his shoulder and gets back to 100%. If he HAS to see the field, I would like to see him there as a receiver and backup QB. That would work best for this program because Vizza is a great talent...as is Riley. Any strategy that maximizes the years those two combine to lead the team is good for the program.
  8. This story made me quite emotional...I really do empathize with this articulate young man. I couldn't think of a better coaching staff for this personal situation than ours. They will do right by him, whether he pans out or not...I would bet on it. He impresses me as the type of individual who would appreciate and make the most of an opportunity.
  9. I, too, was hoping that Ramone would get a shot. This guy is unknown to us, chemistry-wise, but his credentials look strong to me. IMO this will turn out to be a great hire for UNT. I'm lovin' this! The good news just keeps coming!
  10. Maybe we have a Yellow Rose of Texas to thank. God bless her!!
  11. It is definitely a cliche, but you can't quantify "heart". I think that accounts for some of the "busts" over time. When a *.* kid jumps up to the D-1 level, he is starting to write on a fresh sheet of paper. What he did back at home doesn't mean $hit when practice starts for real at the next level. IMO, those that come to Denton knowing they are starting over will make an impact...those feeling they have already arrived because of past accolades will fail. You can only go out and recruit the men that you see, from documented past performances, could help your program progress upward. Past performance is never a perfect predictor...too many variables and that intangible thing called "heart''.
  12. Those is some slippery folks in KY...they'll probe until they find a way to git 'er done!
  13. Charlie has identified an interesting project. One of you young posters that has access to multiple regression software could design a problem using Rivals points and seasonal won-lost records to determine how much of a correlation exists. I'd do it myself, but I'm 62, too tired and it would interfere with my Shiner consumption.
  14. No matter when it begins, there is life after football. I respect and admire him all the more for having his priorities straight. Good luck, Jamario, and please don't be a stranger when you graduate.
  15. If Fentriss performs as expected, he and Fitzgerald will be awesome to behold. And if the opponents' defense takes them away, the rest of our WRs (Dibrell, etc.) will eat their lunch. I feel a helluva offensive explosion coming on. I know I have unintentionally slighted others by not naming them...sorry. We have a super receiving corps!
  16. Greenbat is really an OK guy...all of our interactions have been on a high plane. His posts have been a little harsh lately, but cut him some slack. I have no idea what burr is under his saddle but that will pass. Can't we all just get along? For the record, I'm a die-hard RV backer.
  17. I'm sure Horton knows who Gary Deloach is. I'm sure he's been made aware of the players Deloach has coached at DE. Deloach signs, Horton commits. Cooincidence? I think NOT!! There is a serious young man who wants to play on Sunday.
  18. Dodge has covered his need well by getting GD back. There should be some improvement next year and a big jump after Deloach has a chance to work with the new talent in this year's class. Now, do you have Ramone's number?
  19. I am sorry to see him make that decision, but only he knows what will make him happy. If our OL system is not his cup of tea, credit him for stepping up and saying so NOW. Best of luck to him and I hope there is a school out there that needs him if he still wants to play ball. I wish you peace of mind.
  20. Wow, a whole different side than the one he projected in casual contact! The side I remember was open to football conversation and could give a good motivational talk. I don't doubt your experience at all, it's just like we're describing two different people. Maybe what you saw was his "game face".
  21. No, my recollection is that a couple of square pegs wouldn't adapt to fit in the round hole. Tried to fit the hole using a hammer instead.
  22. Helluva guy, helluva team, helluva nice family! Congratulations to all!!
  23. I'm OK with the natural progression of things. I only fear one thing...that I will not find a worthy heir to my Shiner-ina-can legacy.
  24. PLEASE God!! Give me cancer NOW!
  25. Eulesseagle and others have legitimate viewpoints; IMO RA doesn't fall into that category, however, and shouldn't be tarred with that brush. If Ramone and TD have rapport, he should be given every consideration. He has the intangibles that I would like to see in our coaches and he is a known quantity. My only regret is that I somehow missed meeting him personally during tailgating last fall. I understand the concerns expressed by some, and I know they truly want the best for the program. As for me, if TD hires GD and RA I would feel very confident that he has covered his area of need quite well.
