  1. I do not know the man, but by all accounts he is a truly good man and good coach. I think they will cut him as much slack as they politically can in the hope he will right the ship at SMUt. The AD has been VERY patient, but I wouldn't be surprised if Orsini has delivered the "win now or else" speech. I would like to see him succeed, just not against us.
  2. There would be nothing like a sellout to bring home the point about getting this series extended. An annual meeting is good financially for both schools.
  3. The reason I think we have the potential to take a big crowd to Ford is because I live MUCH closer to Ford than Fouts. It is much less of an effort to make this away game than any home game. I suspect that goes for a large number on this board and a substantial portion of our alumni base. Some group needs to organize a bus deal for students and you have the potential for a typical Fouts-sized crowd. Maybe I'm just viewing this topic through green-colored glasses, but I think I see a big crowd of our fans. Just my opinion.
  4. As far as I know, there would be nothing to prevent them from capping the number of tickets made available to us so they won't get shown up in their own house. Without restrictions, I could easily see a normal Fouts home attendance number for us at their place, i.e., 16,000 - 18,000 Mean Green fans. If all that matters to them is our $25 per head, then our fans should dominate them.
  5. Now a somewhat serious answer to the original post. Nothing. Stoops has built up a lot of capital and a second non-BCS loss in a row would cost him some but he would not be in trouble...he just better not lose to OSU! There are lots of ways to rationalize a first-game loss and, in theory, it could happen. I think there is a higher probability that pigs will fly out of various orifices of my body than we will outscore OU on 9/1. What I want to see is a team that represents us well; a team that has attitude, executes, and believes it belongs on the field in Norman. Our poorer showings in the past against the big boys, IMHO, have had more to do with the mental game than the physical game. It is too much to ask of TD and his staff for this team to play an error-free game right out of the box. It ain't gonna happen (a win), but I plan to be there to support them unconditionally. I believe that some day before I die, if I go on enough road trips, the Mean Green will eventually shock the world; I want to witness and savor it. I believe that the odds improved greatly with TD now at the helm. I think Bob Stoops will not be in trouble this year on our account, as much as I would want it to be otherwise.
  6. I faxed in my order for 2 OU and 2 SMU tickets. They ran my card. I assume that this system will work like Indy...I may be in the field of allocation today but I can get bumped by someone in the next couple of weeks with more points. I assume they would run a credit to my account if I didn't make the field on July 21. For the record, I have absolutely no problem with this system. It seems to be a fair way to allocate scarce resources (tickets) among the faithful who want them. I will be disappointed if I end up watching on TV but I won't feel $hit upon.
  7. The State of Texas would NEVER break off and float into the Gulf of Mexico. It would go nowhere, because Oklahoma SUCKS!
  8. There should be some weighting here, with extra credit for sitting through Dickeyball the last two years!
  9. I sent the ticket office an email yesterday and they replied today that they were mailed Friday. Sure enough, the info was in the mail today. I was able to reconcile my points after reading the explanation. It seems to imply that you have until July 20 to get your ticket order in and then they will allocate according to points. Doesn't seem to be a first-come, first-served scenario.
  10. Hey, Emmitt! Lighten UP! Even God rested on the seventh day.
  11. Actually, as I recall, we left earlier than that. It was either a 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. departure. HOWEVER, the kickoff was also at 3:00 p.m., I think, which was OK because it rained and kept things cool. I would say back off from kickoff by 6 hours and that would be a good estimate of departure time this year. IT WAS REALLY FUN to take the bus, there was catered BBQ for lunch when we got there, and we had band-cheerleaders-dancers for a nice rally before gametime. This is the way to go to Norman.
  12. You will eventually have a problem or two, even with a group of young men that ostensibly are "squeeky clean" We are all human and subject to the temptations of life. There is no sense in increasing the odds of disrupting your team chemistry by taking a kid into your program with known character issues...IMHO.
  13. TD has enough of a project on his hands just molding the players he has into his system and getting them tuned up. No way in hell should we inject a problem we KNOW about into the mix and divert attention and energy away from the task at hand this year.
  14. I took Orange when I renewed, thinking that was still the best place to be. I don't pick stocks worth a $hit either!
  15. This old body has been to many late fall games when that afternoon sun was pretty damned welcome! When the sun goes down around the third or fourth quarter it can get pretty chilly. We were truly blessed with good weather last year but we're bound to catch some of Mother Nature's payback sooner or later. I like the way we're scheduled.
  16. Well, people, we are blessed. There are MANY, difficult and agonizing choices to get this down to four faces. Our Rushmore would HAVE to have more. We can easily come up with four deserving faces and four more equally deserving faces...or six...or eight. This is too hard for me to tackle sober...I'll have to sacrifice several Shiners before I can even think about it. Maybe grill up some fajitas to go with it. Ya'll have a GREAT Memorial Day and please remember the reason for this holiday.
  17. IMHO, this is not an either/or proposition. One choice begets the other. Due to the size of the commitment and the lead time, we need to be going balls-to-the-wall on the stadium TODAY.
  18. Of course! THEY ARE THE REAL McCOYS! Or, for Emmitt, "Keepin' it REAL with the McCOYS".
  19. Has to rival "Italian War Heroes" or "Clinton On Ethics" for brevity.
  20. SMUt probably thinks it is accommodating us, since they view us as blue collar people. We all have to work on Saturday and the later kickoff will allow us to clean up after mowing the Highland Park lawns and cleaning the Highland Park houses. Those of us who are domestic servants will probably get the evening off so we can attend the game.
  21. Don't know about THOSE places, but they bite on Greenville Avenue!
  22. I AM Todd Dodge. I've been observing this scene from a distance for a while and decided to step up and put my reputation on the line when DD imploded. I extend the hand of friendship to all of you who support my program and want to see UNT respected in college football circles. I will be severely pissed at all of you in Section E if you start chanting "RUN THE DAMNED BALL!" Now, let's pull together and Git Er Dun !
  23. IMHO, what we need is a 5 year plan if we really want to change conferences. It is no time to ditch the Sunbelt when we are bleeding in the water...we need to change conferences from a position of strength. That means reasserting our dominance for two or three years in football, and getting basketball where it needs to be. Both of those sports seem to be moving in the right direction. Along the way, we need to nail a few hides on the barn from teams we were not supposed to beat. The facilities upgrades seem to be making progress. In 4 or 5 years we should be in a position to deal from strength. In the meantime, let's be content to become the best in the Sunbelt. Don't worry, be happy. Further affiant sayeth not.
  24. I'm the CFO of a small technology company in Dallas, with 90% of its sales export. One of five companies like it in the world (in terms of products manufactured). I hate to profit from the catastrophes of others, but earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes are good for our business.
  25. I go BOTH ways...uhh, let me rephrase that. I belong to BOTH. Two fine groups, each with a mission to benefit UNT.
