  1. That is the reason I am not a season ticket holder. Except for TCU, I only bought the Saturday games. The only reason I did that was the difficulty in working a full business day and getting from central Dallas to Denton in time for the tipoff. The stress of getting there ruins the game for me anyway. The extra half hour DOES make all the difference in the world.
  2. You KNOW I'll be there! Sec 107, Row B I think...the tickets are already in my car. I'll be headed north to Denton before 5:00pm tomorrow to beat the traffic. I might even get there in time to have a cold beer before the game, IF you people in Denton haven't sucked it all down before I can get there.
  3. Thanks for your insights, guys. Let's hope CD breaks out soon; Tuesday night WOULD be a nice time to begin restoring his stats. I sometimes catch myself thinking about what kind of team this would be if the turncoats Miller and Erskin had gutted it out like Chris did. I mean no disrespect to the men we have, but those two would have made this current team awesome. Speaking of Awasom, although he won't be able and ready to participate until January probably, I remember seeing him do some good work last year with limited minutes. I was struck by how QUICK and agile he is for such a big guy. I know he's not tall enough to be that 6' 10" post you were thinking of, but he's a reasonable facsimile of an Erskin.
  4. I have been totally entertained by Chris Davis for the last three years and am looking forward to his having another great year before the NBA shot. I am a true fan of his work, so please don't take anything I post here as negative. Chris does not look right...more accurately, his SHOT does not look right. I saw him at SMU and have listened to the other four game calls on radio. He is hustling, setting up his teammates, rebounding and otherwise playing well. His shooting touch seems to have left him. I saw, and have heard Hank and/or George remark about, how often he is putting up airballs. He sometimes clangs them off the iron as well. This is not like him at all. Being defensed is not something new to him; other players have not affected his shots much before. It is almost as if he has a vision problem or something affecting depth perception. I'm genuinely concerned for a great guy and hope that he has been checked out.
  5. Hopkins came up big tonight! Davis had another average night, but I got the sense that he knew it and was setting up his teammates with shots. His line reflects that he went to the boards and made assists. They all played pretty well, even our "junior Bradley" Masters. Let's hope we get Winthrop tomorrow and put one on them. That will make us 3 -2 on the road to open the season and coming home on a roll to face TCU Tuesday. I'm leaving the office at 4:30 Tuesday so I won't get caught in that I-35 evening traffic nightmare from Dallas to Denton.
  6. Rick, it is so funny to watch him read in a monotone from the teleprompter that is scrolling his lines somewhere off to the LEFT of the camera. You'll notice that he hardly ever looks directly into the camera. I actually felt sorry for Knight when he did the dog and cat food commercial...thought it was degrading. It was like watching an old stripper with cellulite trying to do another show (knowing that people were giggling) because she needed the money! (Yes, that analogy comes from personal experience) It is somehow more fitting to see Knight do an ad for a drilling company. There is something macho about that business.
  7. From the first time I watched him coach a game, he had me. JJ is the real deal. He will do whatever he has to do to get his guys to perform on the floor and win games. Let's hope he whips them into shape this weekend so that we have a chance to win next Tuesday. By the way, I watched some of that TT-TCU game on TV earlier this week. Any impressions? I thought TCU looked undisciplined; it was like watching a playground team. Do you think they will play like that, or was it Knight's defense that made TCU look like that?
  8. We played a competitive game for 30 minutes against a legitimate top 10 team. If/when Davis comes out of his funk, this will be a good UNT team. Props to Jermaine Green for his performance today. Sounds like the freshmen played with poise again, which can only be a good thing come January and February. What's done is done, we'll never take another shot in the past. Let's get ready for Weber State and put five guys on the floor who will run, pass and take good shots. I want to see us strap it on TCU on December 10, so hopefully we can build to that level.
  9. After that lackluster performance last night against SMoooo, we need a respectable outing against the Hoosiers. There is a lot riding on this for me personally...I have to show up in Indiana for the family reunion! I know IU's history and program, and it would be a miracle if we pulled an upset. I think we can run with them but they have a lot of muscle and will use it. After last night's performance on the boards I just hope we can stay in the game. We're catching IU coming home from a trip to Hawaii where they played a lot of basketball against traditional powerhouses. Maybe they won't bother to prepare for us. Hey, it could happen.
  10. Well, here is what I saw: 1 - Chris Davis looked like he was in a fog all night, barely drew iron on many shots, and made some horrible passes; 2 - Degrate wasn't so; 3 - We scored when we got ball movement around the perimeter (three passes at least), got stuffed when we tried to freelance; 4 - We never mounted a run of any kind, which would have won the game for us in the second half; 5 - Yeah, we got homered by the refs; and 6 - We looked like the team that just played two days before, not much energy or legs. JJ and staff were coaching the hell out of them (my seat was right above the bench) but the guys didn't respond in the stretch. They were clearly not able to execute what JJ wanted done. Jerome Rogers picked up where he left off last year, Leonard Hopkins played a good game, and the freshmen all looked like they belonged out there. The leadership from the veterans was a no show in an important game; they were disappointing.
  11. I SECOND that emotion! See you there. I'm in Sec. F, Row 9, Seat 3 according to the SMooo ticket man. Saw some of the game last night and they don't look like world-beaters. Think JJ will have our guys ready to go.
  12. Geez, Willie, I thought that I was the only one who sensed that they weren't gearing their cheers, and the timing thereof, to the action on the field. I had a friend and his two sons (13 and 21) with me and THEY new what to holler and WHEN to do it. I attribute some of the support problem to being stunned by USF. Their team kind' nailed us in the crotch on that first drive, and it took time to recover.
  13. Thanks for the information crayongirl21. Anyone who reviews MY posts will not find anything critical of ANY of the students / performers. People like me are just damned proud of our university and want to make it even better if we can. I am long gone from the campus but take every opportunity to come back...and I wouldn't bother if I didn't care.
  14. NT75 got it right. I have corresponded with FireFightinRick and will write my check when given the mean green light. I am a football fan first and a band fan second. I have no ties to the band other than I respect and admire their excellence. They stir up a lot of pride and emotion in me with their presentations and they demonstrate what school spirit is all about. Let's add the final little touch and give that flag corps some flags in school colors with which to do their good work.
