  1. I saw the BIG dude with Grave Digger on his jersey. I made a mental note. He had the number 77 in white on a bluish-gray jersey, possibly some black accents. Looked like the second coming of Bob Lilly.
  2. THANK YOU, Flyer! I feel so much better.
  3. Dear Friends, My bookmarks to The Fight Song and Alma Mater get a 404 response. I've gone to the Talons page but those don't work either. I NEED A FIX THIS MORNING!!! IT IS GAMEDAY!!! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE MEAN GREEN MARCH TO GET MY FIX!! Can anyone post a link that works??
  4. Jeez, guys! I didn't intend to get anything started here re: Gore. I just was having a sandwich at my desk while checking out my favorite site. The intent was to have a little lunchtime fun and misspell "peace" for effect (the spelling Nazis haven't called me on it yet). I even used an emoticon indicating my attempt at humor. Apparently, our nerves are frayed...what we need is a WIN (Saturday, on the field; no ballot box references here). For the record, though, I am a free-market advocate and believe that God helps those who help themselves (no government intervention required, the free enterprise system works just fine). I also believe that the government that governs best governs LEAST. Having said that, I don't want to contribute to any political firestorm. Further affiant sayeth not!
  5. First he invented the internet, then he patented the cure for global warming, then he invented smart; soon he will self-promote as the inventor of piece.
  6. I always am careful to not miss the Mean Green March because it jacks ME up too when the team comes through. We REALLY need to upgrade participation from the fans; I thought for a little while that we weren't going to have enough people to hold up the lane markers at the FlaAtl game. I never thought the previous regime gave a rat's ass about it and thought it was to be endured. If this staff enjoys it and talks it up to the players, then we need to crank it up a notch. We need to come together and make it even more special and motivating for them...this week more than ever!
  7. Yes, but we would have to run the table. We have enough good teams left on the schedule that a 7 - 0 run with good wins after the 0 - 5 start would be a great TV storyline and actually make us attractive to some minor bowl. I think the NOB is beyond reach this season unless Troy does an "el foldo".
  8. Holy $hit, Navy wins! Tighten your chinstraps, wear your jockstraps, and buy your shinguards!!! November 10 is going to be a BITCH! I look forward so much to that matchup, but unless we improve our run D we are in DEEP $shit my friends.
  9. That pass is always in the back of your mind...Holtz called it a long time ago. Pitt just loaded up on the run and dared them to pass until they finally did. I really want Navy to win this game but it looks like Pitt is going to put it away.
  10. What I get from Ford's comments is that "there is no "I" in "TEAM"".
  11. Look for the silver lining...their kicker is nothing to worry about!
  12. That was what was behind my question re: Todge. If he ran that offense, he may have some strategies for slowing the damned thing down.
  13. DAMN! Unless we find some run defense, we're their bitch! They have great team speed but I know we will move the ball on them; gentlemen, we have a shootout in the making. What we have going for us is circumstances: (1) they get to throw their bodies against Notre Dame the week before us; (2) they will expend great psychological energy for Notre Dame because of the long losing streak against them (42 in a row ?) and a sense that ND can be had this year; and, (3) they have to come on the road and play us in Denton. Even with these things going for us, we have one helluva job ahead of us. Win or lose tonight, Navy looks damned good. Question: Was TD running the Navy offense in college when he was at Texas? I'm certainly old enough but I can't remember if they were running the option when he was there. Merlot has that effect on me.
  14. I wonder if the practice times will be announced and the Superpit will be open? I would like to combine some B-Ball with my pre-game tailgating routine.
  15. I would think we could get him placed in a unit in Huntsville that would be worse than death. One could only hope. He deserves to be turned over to the boys in Vidor to see how long he can keep up with the jeep he's chained to!
  16. I listened on the internet while working on a spreadsheet last night, so my attention was divided. But, I do not remember too many comments about the Deplorable D. Seems there were a few comments about missed tackles, as I recall; things like having their runner stopped for modest gains, only to have them break for a long run. Apparently the current agreement is "don't ask, don't tell".
  17. As long as I can remember listening to the Coach's shows, present and past, no hardball questions have ever been asked. Not even slow-pitch softball questions. Most have been tee ball questions! But really...you don't expect the Coach to say "Bless me, fans, for I have sinned. My last confession was last week when we also got our asses handed to us. But we promise to go and sin no more".
  18. Upsets usually happen within scenarios where the overwhelming sentiment is that there is no way the underdog can compete for an entire game. If we get up on them early and hang around into the fourth quarter, it could happen. Our team is still improving week-to-week and hasn't put four good quarters together yet. Some weekend they will do that...maybe this weekend.
  19. A win is improbable but NOT impossible. Arkansas is deep in athletes but they are not superhuman, like OU. McFadden is a great back but he can be defensed to reduce his production. We could put together an errorless game; if we did, we would be a challenge for the Hogs. Hell, we could even get a few lucky bounces for a change! I believe that UNT under TD will shock the world some Saturday ala Appalachian State. It is not "if" but "when". If not this season, next. But I believe it will happen...it will. If Stebo's gut tells him it could be this weekend I wouldn't discount it.
  20. Body Bag games are not that bad, IMHO, IF you are trying to raise the overall competitiveness of your team. How do you know what the best looks like and how do you know how far you are from the top if you don't play the best. I think this coaching staff will continue to approach these games with a positive, let's take a shot attitude. I was never a harsh critic of the previous regime but I always thought they waved the white flag too quickly and easily in those games, and that galled me. Someone with the capability should survey the players and ask them if they want twelve games against the Little Sisters of the Poor every season so that they could possibly claim a perfect record. I suspect they WANT to go toe-to-toe with two or three big-name programs in the OOC portion of the schedule because our guys are competitors and winners. Wins matter but a steady diet of cupcakes wouldn't lead to respect. Body bag games ARE bad when you rely on them exclusively to keep your program financially viable and must play three or four every year to balance the books. Just my opinion.
  21. My thoughts are along the same lines. From what I have read about TD's offense, it is a fairly balanced attack when optimized. I was very glad to see Jamario have a good game; HE needed it, WE the fans needed it, and the TEAM needed it after the one-dimensional statistics of the first two games. There is a glimmer of a more balanced offense on the horizon and therefore some wins.
  22. My favorite was the guy who said, in a large Plumm-esque colored font, "THIS FOOTBALL PROGRAM NEEDS A CASTRATION!! GET RID OF THE NUTTS NOW!!!".
  23. That "get your ass to the locker room" is old-style football. I played for a hot-headed Irish coach from Massachusetts when I was in high school in Indiana. We were allowed to celebrate when we won...but when we lost it was like he was screaming "Bad Dog! Bad Dog! Get to your doghouse!". When we got to the lockerroom he would be all red in the face, shouting at us and telling us what loafers we were. He chewed on every guy in the room. He dropped dead of a heart attack on the sideline during a game about ten years after I graduated.
