  1. I have no beef with Dr. B, she can do as she sees fit. And I respect her and what she has accomplished to date in her tenure. I also am of the opinion that she understands the power of athletics to promote and unite a university, which in turn makes raising funds for academics easier. I AM, however, sick and tired of people and politicians telling me that they know how to spend my money better than I do. Every contribution I make to UNT will be designated for a specific department and/or project. I suggest that you all do the same.
  2. Did someone say Shiner? Since December, I have tried the Holiday brew they made, the wheat beer (Hefeweizen ?sp?), the 100 and the Black Lager. The 100 is very nice (tastes like a "tweener" between the regular Shiner Bock and the Black Lager). In the last few weeks I have taken to downing a Black Lager when I hit the door, then chasing it with a Bock after dinner. I just checked and I do have a 100 Commemorator in the fridge, so I will sacrifice it after the post...purely for testing purposes.
  3. I have seen several REALLY GREAT defensive players play, and my hat is off to every one of them. If I HAD to choose one, it would be Booger Kennedy. I love watching him on the old season highlights videos. I will never forget sitting in Austin traffic after the 27-0 game and listening to the postgame show. Mack sounded a little disspirited, praised Booger as an All-American, said Texas couldn't block him all night, and that we were a good team and would win our conference ...and we did.
  4. Noted, but as a Teke I can't comment about the behavior of others.
  5. Hickory, ABSOLUTELY NOT!! I have posted before that I fear for Riley's durability BUT I pray that he makes the whole season with nothing worse than a hangnail. If he wins the job, I want him to be able to perform to his physical capabilities...which are CONSIDERABLE. He is gifted and will be the best QB to ever come through this program ... IF he stays healthy. I think our O-Line is coming around and will be able to protect him better than they were able to protect Gio.
  6. ABSOLUTELY no hate from me...ever. I have expressed reservations about his physical size and how that might affect his durability, but that was a sincere thought for his well-being and the team's performance should he go down for the count. Surely he has been spending time with the strength coach, has gotten that shoulder back to nearly 100%, and has bulked up a little since last fall. Unlike some, I care not that he is the coach's son...there are several positives to that!
  7. RE: Riley, I wouldn't think of "bashing" him. In his brief appearances I saw a glimpse of what he might do as an every-down player. I also saw a body that needs to be developed to play at this level. He has the skills but I am concerned for his physical well-being. That is the reason I advocated a true redshirt year for him last year. Nathan is going to have to prepare for every game like he is one snap from being the starter. It will be very scary.
  8. The news this morning was like being kicked in the nuts. People, turnover happens in any organization. When turnover becomes a stream of people out the door, the focus should be on management. We need to find out in a damned big hurry what it takes to keep the rest of our good young men in the fold and DO it. If the trail leads to the top, well...leave a loaded gun on the desk, tell him to do the right thing, and close the door.
  9. This "patient" thing is starting to resemble a trip to Parkland's emergency room. If you live long enough you will get some attention.
  10. We could have let one get away last night too! The Ponies should have been pretty humble with their crummy start...naahhh! They probably thought all they had to do was show up at HOME, with their refs. They can't afford to look down their noses at anyone. One reason I love basketball is that you only need a few good guys and anything can happen on a given night.
  11. I'm one of those who is perennially pissed because of the 7:00 pm tipoff during the week. It is just damned impossible to work in Dallas and drive up to Denton without major mental trauma, particularly if you don't work 9:00 - 5:00. Having vented, you better damn well believe I'll be there tomorrow for both games with Eaglette!! And any other game we can make without risking a total traffic nervous breakdown.
  12. Let me get this correctly...we play in Lafayette on THURS night..then we play in NO on MON night. MMMMM...that leaves FRI, SAT and SUN nights in between. Couldn't/wouldn't we just lay up in NO for the weekend? Sounds efficient to me, consistent with minimum (physical) stress on the players, and probably cost effective. OR, we could travel half the time on those days and get to spend a night in Denton. Which one would'ya rather?? (Actually, I'd rather John's avatar)
  13. To Chris...be a man! Tell her to piss off the party, you're going to the game. From experience I can tell you that women come and women go, but a good hardwood matchup is hard to find and impossible to pass up. If you don't believe me on this, ask my ex-wives.
  14. TD was not my personal choice but after the hiring decision was made I closed ranks and got behind him. I suspect there is a silent majority that is still solidly behind him. I may have posted a few critical comments this year about events on the field but I'm still solidly in his camp and believe he will get the job done for UNT. It is like a card game...I'm seeing the raise to get another card and hoping it is an ace, not a joker.
  15. My personal preference for a play calling system involves a matrix made up of all the possible calls for game situations (down/distance). Print this matrix on a sheet of plywood and have it on the ground behind our bench with a low fence around it. You will need several sheets, one for each situation. Then introduce a live, recently fed chicken to the mix...and take its "advice".
  16. I'm from the school of thought that thinks the logical next step is no blowout losses. The actual number of wins is not that important to me AT THIS POINT in the program; for me, we must first stop the bleeding. To address the topic of this thread, I voted 5. What matters to me right now is not whether we win 4 or 6 games but how we play in 12 games. Don't read "moral victory" into this because it is not there; it would be refreshing to see a team that played consistent, low-number-of-stupid-mistakes football. The loss to AssU was the best game I saw us play all year, including the win. I think that being consistently competitive is our next step on the road to recovery, and let the Ws and Ls fall where they will. JMO.
  17. BallS could actually go 14-0 after their bowl game. I will be rooting for them to do just that. We could, and can, be in that enviable position someday. Hope I live to see it.
  18. I just watched some of the Ball State game...that could be us. To make matters worse, that buzz saw is only two games away. Makes me depressed to think about it. No further comment, I'm headed for a Shiner fix.
  19. I know I'll be thankful for at least several things on Saturday: 1. The chance to stand and pay our respects to one helluva fine senior - Casey Fitzgerald. 2. The chance to pay homage to several other great young men, like Joseph Miller, Danny Meager, Brock Stickler, etc. 3. The last humiliating beatdown for several months; this season can't be over soon enough. 4. The chance to enjoy tailgating, not a friggin' icebowl. 5. The chance to turn my thoughts entirely to UNT basketball. Hey!! I realized I have a LOT to be thankful for.
  20. Nine point game...30-21 early second half. Good defense but VERY sloppy play by our ladies. Playing down to the competition, IMO. I'll bet the coach will have a few words to say about that! She sounds like a no-BS kind of coach.
  21. OK...so where IS it ??? KNTU is playing music.
  22. Happy Birthday, PMG! You ain't an old fart...you're still fresh. Drift back in on the wind Saturday and catch a game.
  23. "I am sure if we had decomissioned our program and just brought it back after 20 years, there would be a lot of excitement in the Denton area as well." NOW you are onto something, Stebo...but I probably won't live that long.
