  1. I read three pages in this thread and don't recall seeing "turn the corner" defined. I think "turn the corner" is seven wins and a bowl invitation. That is the minimum necessary to fit the definition, IMHO.
  2. Oh, I'm with ya'll on the concept that taking the heat comes with supervising the kitchen. I'm just saddened that TD and others are catching so much $hit because 20-year-olds don't make plays. Some of those plays this season have been the type that can be corrected with coaching, and some haven't. This is like a fist fight at the Thanksgiving dinner table.
  3. Dear Fellow Mean Green Supporters: It is not fun reading all over this board how people are lashing out. We are eating our own. Very sad.
  4. NO! The man has assembled a maturing team, good young men with character. Todd Dodge does not stop drives with fumbles, interceptions, blocked kicks and penalties. The kids have to perform. The man has assembled a better staff and done a much better job of putting a competitive team on the field this year. He has built a team almost from scratch and the fruit ripens next year. Regardless of the record, he has earned the right to see this through next year in my book. I do not want to start over again.
  5. FloMo read my mind. Just finishing strong and going into the offseason with a winning taste in the mouth will do a lot for the men on the team, the program, and the dispositions of us diehards. One at a time...let's get a win tomorrow.
  6. Tomorrow will be a historic day for UNT, facilities-wise. How about showing up for the grounbreaking? To the team...this is your bowl game. The crowd, the pageantry, the opponent, and the seniors' last home game. How about getting sky high for this one and playing a complete game? To my fellow fans. The weather will be wonderful for late November. No excuses. We need all of you to show up, enjoy the pre-game atmosphere, then put your butt in a seat and support our team. Can you do that? Together, we can do this. I'm in, who's with me?
  7. What 97and03 said. Tobe was the Defensive MVP, proven by team performance after his unfortunate injury. He was the glue. The other picks are also spot on IMHO.
  8. My prediction is that this game will be much like the Navy game two years ago. 1.) We can't stop them, only make them take lots of time off the board. 2.) We score relatively quickly - three minute drives or less. 3.) Our defense spends WAY too much time on the field and is wasted by the fourth quarter. 4.) Game is ultimately decided by which team gets the ball first (that team will score) and which defense makes one more stop or gets one more turnover. Close game. I predict UNT - 42 Army - 35. I have made the assumptions that (1) we win the toss and take the ball and (2) our defense makes a stop.
  9. "Polar Function" ? As in, a win when Hell freezes over?
  10. Silver!! Didn't realize you were so kinky!
  11. I'm attending, with two non-UNT guests. This atmosphere alone around this game is worth attending and if our football team shows up to play, that's a plus. It IS getting harder and harder to get non-alums to come to the games but I will not be deterred.
  12. I plan to attend, with Eaglette and two guests in tow. The guests were informed to prepare for a FULL DAY, including groundbreaking, prodigious Shiner consumption, great tailgating and a damned good football game! It could happen.
  13. I hope we don't have an easy game. If we shoot our wad against FIU, we won't be able to get up for Army. We'll come home and read the clippings all week (which probably happened after WKY) then sleepwalk against Army. UNT 28 FIU 24
  14. Yes, it is good that our writer is sticking up for us. When you look at his stats, however, he is generally getting trounced by even the Greek mop-squeezer!
  15. I had the honor and privilege to share dinner and several Shiners with a Marine veteran of the Iraqi invasion tonight. Daniel was in a recon unit, for those of you who know how dicey that is, and was in the first charge from Kuwait through An Nasiriyah and right on to Baghdad. He is a helluva good young man and productive member of our society and I will bring him and his girlfriend to the Army game. My family has a long tradition of service but mine could not hold a candle to Daniel's. I salute him and all veterans on this special day. MAY WE NEVER FORGET!
  16. One thing I did notice was the hangtime on the passes. Their quarterback throws ropes, not rainbows, and will go more than 20 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Just saying.
  17. The model reminds me of the NFL animated warrior on Fox. A transformer...or some kind of trannie.
  18. Good post, bowler. Some of what you say fits with my "behind the scenes" / constraints thoughts. He may be forced to keep his lips zipped because (I merely speculate) some donors/sponsors are verbals and not on the dotted line, some are on the fence and still need to be petted, and some may be getting cold feet for the reasons you state. Lets all hang tough and gut this out. Someday, we'll look back and laugh at our posts.
  19. All administrators should be held accountable, but I don't want to lay this mess at anyone's feet. RV has done a terrific job. Perfect? No way, but I wouldn't want to try his job on for size. We will never know what it has been like to walk in his shoes for the last few years...and that is as it should be. There are things that go on behind the scenes that are just plain none of our damned business IMHO. He has coached and is capable of knowing when to pull the plug, but none of us know what constraints on him might be in place, financial or otherwise. It wasn't RV that was burned for at least three long plays last Saturday (like one player I could name but would not) and it wasn't RV that coached the kid. There was a general lack of effort last weekend, which is why everyone is pissed and looking for people to be accountable. It is not RV's place to go into the locker room and give the "win one for the Gipper" speech. It IS RV's job to keep a current short list in the event he is forced to pick up the phone...and I would bet he has one.
  20. As in "The forecast calls for..." ??? A classic song by the great Robert Cray! Coffee for my breakfast Shot of whiskey on the side It's a dark and dreary morning With the clouds covering up the sky [Chorus:] The forecast calls for pain The forecast calls for pain My baby's turning cold And the forecast calls for pain
  21. Team strolls out like they have already won and get down by two scores before the half. Team gets ass chewed and forced to look into the mirror. Team comes out with lightning bolts arcing from its posterior orifices (orifi ?) and pulls even by the end of the third quarter. Team wins by 10 points going away. UNT - 45 WKY - 35
  22. I am totally interested in Riley's health and not much interested in the political BS. If Riley can go without making the injury worse, play him. At the least, play him a few series to get/keep the rust off. If there is a good chance of further injury, sit him down for this week and let Nathan carry the load. Sometimes I think our members lose sight of the fact that these are young men, student athletes, real good people that lay their bodies on the line for UNT.
  23. Losing Tobe is a big blow! He plays with passion and I sincerely hope that the medics can get him back to 100% for his future. My hat is off to you, Tobe. I have mixed emotions about Riley coming back this week. Another week of rest and rehab would make him more effective in a tougher game later. I'm really concerned that another injury will finish him for the year, and we know that WKY is not adverse to chippy play.
  24. Illuvius, I sense your pain and frustration...been there...but only for short periods. Four or five days after the last game, I'm always ready for more and you will be too. I sense an opportunity for relief coming this weekend. If you are tired of taking it in the shorts, a little wKY should help!
  25. I line up with Ole Green Guts, bigrobdsp, KRAM1 and others. Winning is not something that you just switch on. We have all paid our dues for the last three years...now is not the time to fold. TD seems to be on the right track, although it is taking a LOT longer to produce wins than we anticipated. My opinion is that we can't pull the rug out from under him now...for reasons not all related to him personally. Stay the course and honor our contract; this time next year we will absolutely know what has to be done, good or bad. Two or three more wins this year will build some momentum for next year, and at this point that is what we need to look to IMHO.
