"In his speeches, Brandon often mentions he's served as the CEO for three Fortune 500 companies -- the apotheosis of a recent trend among major programs such as Oregon, Notre Dame and Penn State, who've passed over experienced athletic directors to hire outside business gurus."

"But if Brandon knows so much about business, why does he know so little about the people who've been filling the Big House for decades?"

"When the late Michigan broadcaster Bob Ufer said, "Michigan football is a religion, and Saturday is the holy day of obligation," he was on to something."

This a long but very good article on Michigan football, and where we are in college football. It hits home at every level. Worth reading.

I don't know. Winning increases interest. Michigan hasn't been really good in quite a while. I'm sure that fact has more to do with their student attendance than anything else. The same thing happened at OU when John Blake was there. Then Stoops arrived. No more attendance issues.

A more interesting study is Alabama and other SEC power houses. Why they struggle is beyond me.

Michigan has had over 100K at every game since the mid 1970's. They won 11 games (and the Sugar Bowl) just three seasons ago. It's not like they've been roaming the wilderness for a decade or anything.
