“I didn't even think I was going to be selected by the Pistons but everything happens for a reason and I'm blessed to even be in this position,” Mitchell said tonight in New York.

After the Pistons took shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the first round, Joe Dumars said the team helped address its needs on the perimeter. He also said he still wanted more athletes out there.

“I decided to come (to the draft) because of my family,” Mitchell said. “ My family wanted to get away from home just to get the draft experience and be able to walk on stage.”
