Skladany Defense 2011: 20th in the nation

• The man Roof replaced at UCF for that short time was John Skladany, who was fired despite the Knights finishing 20th in the nation in total defense. Skladany was hired this week as North Texas’ coordinator. UNT’s coach is Dan McCarney, the former Iowa State coach. Skladany was McCarney’s DC with the Cyclones. Skladany replaces Clint Bowen, who left for Kansas to be a defensive assistant under Weis; his role has not been specified. Bowen is a former Kansas DC under Mark Mangino.

UCF was top 10 in total defense and scoring defense in 2011

I am going by the NCAA stats here: Scoring D -- Total D

Even if you look at Rival's (article's host) stats, they are 11th.

I still can't believe they fired him for that. If anything it makes it very clear to me that UCF made a decision to purge the assistants for O'Leary ground cover. Their loss our gain.
