Recommended Posts

DENTON – The UNT men’s basketball team hosts UTSA Saturday at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (14-11, 7-6) and the Roadrunners (8-19, 2-12) are scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPNU and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.

North Texas heads into Saturday’s game with an overall four-game winning streak versus the Roadrunners and having won five in a row at home versus them. UNT has won 10 of its last 12 versus UTSA, both of those loses were in San Antonio.

During its four-game winning streak over the Roadrunners, UNT has won by an average margin of 16 points. However, in their most recent matchup, last season on Jan. 26, 2023, the Mean Green never led by more than nine points and needed a late run and a defensive stand to hold off UTSA as they won 63-59 at the Super Pit.

Saturday’s game will be a 50th anniversary celebration of the Super Pit, which opened in 1973. UNT men’s basketball alums will be in attendance and are encouraged to come.

Prior to tip-off on Saturday, there will be a pregame tailgate that starts at 1 p.m. CT outside of gate A of the Super Pit. Food will be provided by David Anderson, CUTX, Raising Cane’s, Wing Daddy’s, Hawaiian Bros, Whataburger and Beth Marie’s Ice Cream.

After Saturday’s game the Mean Green will have just four regular season games remaining before the 2024 American Athletic Conference Tournament begins on March 13 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

UNT’s next game after Saturday is a road trip to New Orleans on Wednesday to face Tulane.  The Mean Green beat the Green Wave 70-56 in Denton on Jan. 6.

After Saturday, North Texas will have just two remaining home games on March 3 versus East Carolina and March 6 versus Florida Atlantic.
